Party On

The party is over. Political parties, that is.

I'm not sure I have a party affiliation anymore. I don't identify with either party. I'm not sure any elected official represents me and suddenly, monarchy seems to make a lot more sense.

In a pure monarchy, if I understand it correctly, the King or Queen is in charge and represents the people of the country. Without apology, the regents do what they want, however self-serving it might be.

Of course, the Princes that are born of this union will have important positions, regardless of qualification.

The people of the land may seek assistance, but they know they get help only if it pleases the King. Though he represents them, he is above them. Unfortunately, the King may actually think the people below him are somehow less than him.

Occasionally, the King may not be honest with the people. You'll never hear the King explain himself; he doesn't have to. Don't expect it.

There are days when I think I would really dig that kind of clarity.

  1. "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those others that have been tried." - Winston Churchill

Of course, he also said "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."

Then again, our partisan system does fall well short of a pure democracy. I'm not sure what the best answer is. In Vermont, we've got a viable third party which definitely helps but it's still a party and must therefore serve itself. Most local races are non-partisan, even better.

    1. Squid, I'm not sure what the answer is, either, but it sure seems much more muddy and disappointing lately. Maybe I'm just paying more attention.

Perhaps, I'll move to Vermont. Non-partisan local sounds like a step in the right direction!

  2. Party on, Wayne!
    Party on, Garth!
    Party on, Cherdo!

You're right, dear friend. Come to think of it,
    I never heard a King declare, "I am not a crook!" :)

I don't look forward to election cycles.
By the time they're over I'm tired of peddling! :)

Professor Shady sez James Buchanan was our last great president and his shoes have yet to be filled. :)

I joke to keep from crying, Cherdo, because it seems we are in a leadership vacuum lately and bipartisanship is on the endangered species list.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, dear friend!

    1. You, too, SDK! I stay away from political specifics, but I am in a state of discontent with the whole deal.

Shouldn't you be packing??? Be safe, have fun, wear sunblock, don't mess with the fault line and stay away from the Indie bands.

    2. Are you sending me packing, dear friend? :)

Yessum, I've heard that California has its faults. :)

    3. Wishing you a safe trip, friend!

Thanks for your personal yada, yada, yada,
Love, Cherdo
