Sir Paul McCartney
Not Sir Kanye West
That might explain it
Liverpool, England?
Why does that name ring a bell?
Jay-Z's vacation?
"Please, Please Me," Kanye
Wildly popular record
Not request from Kim
Excuse Mr. West
He does not understand fame
He names it...claims it
Does fame require more?
Where have you been, Mr. West?
Yellow submarine?
Does he deserve fame?
Like Ringo deserves Oscar
Twist and shout, player
The Beatles create
While young Kanye just "samples"
So you be the judge
You guys play nicely
(Paul will buy your catalog...
Ask Michael Jackson.)
I love this. :) For some reason, I think of two things when I hear Liverpool...the first, I suppose, would be obvious...The Beatles. The second is the Titanic.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny, Linda...those are the exact things that come to mind for me, too (occasionally, you can add Gerry and the Pacemakers singing "Ferry, cross the Mersey...." or Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying. They were Liverpool lads, too!).
DeleteI'm Shady Del Knight and
ReplyDeleteI'm too sexy for my shirt
Too sexy for my shirt
So sexy it hurts
And I'm too sexy for my hat
Too sexy for my hat
What do you think about that?
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus, Haiku goo joob
Ludacris! Simply Ludacris!
Happy Hump Day, dear friend Cherdo!
In the entire duration of our friendship, I always had this small voice in the back of my head that whispered, "Hey...he IS the eggman..."
DeleteIf you haven't looked at some of the idiotic comments on this subject (oh, the whoo rah), check them out. There's all kinds of music out there, but who doesn't recognize a Beatle?).
Happy Hump Day, indeed! Take care, SDK!
Pam @ Go Retro! also addressed this topic. Have a look!
DeleteI saw where Kanye and Paul are doing a song together and there may be further collaboration. Hmmm, methinks the Liverpool lad is desparate!
ReplyDeleteAh, the pull of pop culture!

DeleteNow I'm wondering what the original two comments were....
Deleteoh those were before I took my Thorazine...
DeleteDo monthly levels...you know that... :-)
DeleteCherdo you've once again opened my mind to a huge stream (nay, a veritable Niagara) of consciousness considering what is original art! When Kathy was getting her Masters in Photojournalism at OU, her classmates had lengthy discussions how an upcoming "artist" could conscript say an Ansel Adams' photo, photoshop in a bunch of gnomes and then slap their name on it as original creator and not give an ounce of recognition to poor Ansel. Well, sigh, that's art. For all the ruckus being raised about it, at least Sir Paul's name is listed on the record label. I love that he's still actively involved in the creative process and curious about what's new in the world. I am always disappointed when famous "old" songs are sampled by new artists. My first big let down was when the great bass line from Under Pressure was used by what's his name; that's when I began to think "has all the great music been written and there's nothing left?" then, I hear a beautiful and unique song that makes me hopeful. After all these years I still listen to The Beatles and likewise I think to myself "what's wrong with me? Am I stuck in High School?" But no, listening critically to The Beatles I discovered it's variety in sounds that intrigues me, and they had that in spades! A lot of new groups that I try to listen to are boring, relying on a decades old, tried and true formula that rarely works for me any more, I'd rather listen to Tom Waits than Tom Petty. Oh holy cow! is that the time?!
ReplyDeleteThanks once again for getting my neural net out of neutral!
I'll catch you again, Cherdo....On THE FLIP SIDE!!! (echo fade out)
Most of my "art" that grabs existing pieces falls under the same school of thought as parody. I love paring the familiar with the absurd. To me, incongruity is the catalyst for humor. That and being totally appalled at people and events.
DeleteThe Beatles are still great, but this was inspired by the Kanye West fans who thought he had "discovered" Paul McCartney and were impressed by the fact that he would give an "unknown" a career boost. Really, people?
You are my Beatle comrade at arms, so I had to pull you in, Gary. Thanks!
I am your comrade at arms? Surely, you're pulling my leg (Airplane pun intended)!
DeleteI gotta hand it to myself, that's quite a feet!
DeleteYou're so punny.
DeleteI remember hearing about a man who felt old when his teenaged daughter asked him if Paul McCartney was ever in a group before "Wings"!!
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha
DeleteLove the Haiku! I have heard that they are doing a duet together...is it Ebony and Ivory all over again?
ReplyDeleteI think Kanye's fans thought it was just ebony.
DeleteI have an unfortunate dislike for Kanye. Just so materialistic and full of himself.
ReplyDeleteThat is my opinion, too. Usually, I can find a song I like or something redeeming (love "Heartless") and I'm pretty flexible. But the whole schtick about being the best and that stunt he pulled with Taylor Swift on an awards show...geez.
DeleteThe fact that his fan base was oblivious to the contributions of Paul McCartney? Ridiculous.
