Mock Squid Soup - February 13: Napoleon Dynamite

MOCK! and The Armchair Squid are the proud hosts of Mock Squid Soup: A Film Society.  Each month, on the second Friday, they host a bloghop devoted to a particular movie.  They invite others to watch the same film and post their own reviews.

Your old pal, Cherdo, is co-hosting with MOCK! and The Armchair Squid in February. Yay! My man, Squid, kindly gave me the option of choosing a movie - and so, the society shall convene next on February 13th with  Napoleon Dynamite  (it's one of my guilty pleasures).

If you're so inclined, dear readers, I'd love to have you join the blog hop - but it will be just as much fun to see what all the participants post and comments are welcome.

Do it for the children. I'm not sure what children...but there are children who need...things. Like funny quirky movies, for example.

From the Hosts: If you, dear cinephile, would be interested in suggesting a film and co-hosting Mock Squid Soup one month, please let us know.  We hope that you, too, will watch the movie and join in our discussion.  Please sign on to the list below:

  1. Good morning, dear Cherdo!

Hey, who are you callin' a cinephile, pilgrim? I can quit anytime I want!

You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me?

I'm not a joiner, more of a loner (Yikes, I fit the profile!) but I promise to be here (15 minutes early = right on time) for this special post and I solemnly swear to comment and perhaps submit a mini review of my own extolling the virtues of my all time favorite film, Mars Needs Women, winner of 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture.

I look forward to reading your impressions of Napoleon Dynamite and, if time permits, Napoleon Bonaparte.

    February 13? I'll be back!

    1. I'm not a joiner, either. The Cephalopod Coffeehouse is all I can handle, and I already write DVD reviews as some people might have noticed. I love Napoleon, though. I think I watched it at least five times. I look forward to reading what you say about it.

      Love,
      Janie

    2. Anybody here seen my old friend Cherdo?
Can you tell me where she's gone?

    3. Cherdo was gone all day! Wednesday and Thursday are not for wimps! But I'm back now, baby! There's nothing wrong with not being a joiner, ha ha ha. Every bloghop I see is interesting on some level, but I am picky, too. I only do the ones I really want to do.

Shady: "I knew Shady, Officer. He was always a loner." I love how people always say that about someone in hot water. The prisons are full of loners, if you believe what you hear.

Janie: When Napoleon Dynamite first came out, I avoided it. Then Pedro offered me his protection.

Yikes, Gonzo just kissed me goodnight and that boy has been sick all day!! Immediately afterwards, we both went "oh, no." We forgot, I guess we'll be sick together.

Ya'll have a good day! Thanks for stopping, pallys of mine!

  3. Haven't seen this movie. And I can't say I'm much of a cinephile, but if I think of something brilliant to suggest, I'll sign up.

    1. Sherry, I think you'd like Napoleon Dynamite. It's quirky and funny. You can probably watch it with your daughter.

    1. It's a movie that will stick with you in a "oh-that-was-so-dumb-it's-awesome" way.

  5. I can't get enough of how genius that movie is. The whole thing would normally never get past the boardroom pitch stage.

    1. It's an indie film. It probably didn't get past the boardroom pitch stage. I think it premiered at Sundance and then got picked up. I would love to go to Sundance. Or the Tribeca Film Festival. Or a movie theater in Jacksonville, Florida.

      Love,
      Jannie

  6. Ooooh this does sound very tempting since I love film....I don't have Netflix so can one rent this? I also don;t have things hooked up via internet and all that so i wouldn't want to watch a film on the laptop:) If all goes well then I think I'm in!

    1. I'm not sure if you can rent it - I'm not hip to the Canadian film rental scene! But, if you have a rental place, I'd find it hard to believe that they'd skip this one. I hope you join us!

  7. Do you know I've never seen Napoleon Dynamite? I tried watching it a while back and it just wasn't connecting with me--I think you have to really be in the mood!

    1. You kind of have to stick with it for a while to get into it. So, you're right!

    1. I hope we get a few more participants, too! I've got some funny friends and I love to hear from them. If you've never done a movie blog hop, this would be a great first film to review!
