The Soundtrack of My Life Might Be a Laugh-track...

Robin, of Your Daily Dose (check it out, people!) had a great idea: "the soundtrack of my life" theme she does on her blog. I'll wait while you check her out (whistling, toe tapping, looking at watch with a nervous smile...the classic waiter).

In truth, I have an endless supply of songs that are tied to my life, for better or for worse. Of the members of our immediate family, Juggernaut, Gonzo, and I are the most music obsessed. It's not even the same genre, though Gonzo and I are pretty close to the same taste in music.

As the crazy schedule of the year winds down a bit and we can breathe, a realization came over me. When we are stressed, we lean hard on the music adiction. It gets us through. When we are relaxed or happy, we frequently go for the ridiculous combination of humor and music. This is especially true after hours, as in "after everyone in the house (including the dog) has gone to bed and they're out like a light." It's the dorky, middle class after hours fun.

If you've never seen New Zealanders Jermaine Clement and Bret McKenzie of The Flight of the Conchords, you don't know what you're missing. One of our favorites is "Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros."

Gonzo and I will watch these videos and laugh our heads off. It's sad really, but when I hear lyrics like "I was raised by a rapper and rhino that dated, and subsequently procreated" or "Sometimes my rhymes are polite, Like thank you for dinner, Ms. Wright, that was very delicious, good night," I can't help myself.

A large portion of the soundtrack of my current life requires me to KEEP IT WEIRD for as long as I possibly can. It's not the cool soundtrack that I try to envision or the yesteryear nostalgic tug on my heart strings, but baby - it's definitely the B side!

And if we're not satiated by a dose of the Conchords, we go straight to the Flula Borg (our favorite German) lip sync of the same tune.

I may never grow up at this rate. Oh, well.

[Good grief, Hubzam found three typos...geezers, sheesh!]

  1. I've never heard of these guys. That was hilarious.

I think my favorite part was when the second dude started and said "my lyrics are bottomless" and then he was OUT. Hahaha.

When I can't sleep, I will get out my phone and watch junk on YouTube. It can deviate into the strange. Not this strange yet... but strange.

    1. That is my favorite line, too.

And I'm a YouTube "surfer" when I'm bored! We need a club, Robin. It's the only surfing I can master, so why not?

  2. LOL. I couldn't see Robin's videos, sadly. Every day I post music, I'm posting the soundtrack of my life.

  16. Good morning, dear Cherdo!

These guys are completely new to me. You need to remember that I am strictly old school. The most recent music act I can think of off the top of my head is Julius La Rosa, that handsome young man on Arthur Godfrey. That's entertainment!

I noticed the first video included Lenny Venito, the actor who played hubzam/father Marty Weaver on the short lived TV sitcom The Neighbors. I'm sure Venito was cast in this vid because his sour facial expressions when dealing with the family of aliens were priceless and worked well in his encounter with The Flight of the Conchords.

I enjoyed these rappers. dear friend Cherdo, and can understand why the are included on the soundtrack of your life. Hip-hoppy Thursday to you!

    1. Now that we have abandoned cable and just watch Amazon Prime or Netflix when the mood hits us, I realize that I never really watch the regular prime time stuff. I've never seen The Neighbors.

Gonzo and I love quirky. These guys are pretty geeky/quirky and their lyrics are funny in a smart humor kind of way. I almost called this Hip Hop, Schlip Hop, though. What I like most is how they poke fun at that particular genre.

Flula Borg is known for AutoTunes and his take on American idioms - check out my favorite, Jennifer is a Party Pooper:
