Throwback + Thursday + Soundtrack...It's a Hybrid, People

It seems like only yesterday when my boys looked like the picture above. It was taken at the wedding of my oldest son, Juggernaut, and they both were "best men." You can tell by their faces that they are related. Perhaps the sunblock was applied a little heavy that year.

Time flies. I'm reminded of that a lot lately. My youngest of the bunch, this guy, ....

....enrolled in some college classes today (he will take them while he is still in high school...dual enrollment, I love you; what a great idea). It was a milestone that came too quick.

For this hybrid post, I can't think of a better soundtrack song than Joni Mitchell's "Circle Game."

    1. Juggernaut does look nappy, but actually his hair is more of a crew cute a la 2015 with a goatee. That kid can grow a beard in a day...

    2. I was thinking more along the lines of "hand placement":

  3. The older you get, the more time flys because it matters less and less what time it is.

    1. Cherdo, I'm not going to do the Bonehead blog hop on the 5th - still sick.

    2. Oh, Dixie! I'm so sorry you're under the weather, my friend. Don't worry about that at all! You'll note that I added a disclaimer - I'm the no-stress blog hop!

      Rest, relax and get better!

  5. Beautiful song. I feel a pang of nostalgia and wonderment when I look at old pics as I think about how time flies and the progress people make in their lives.

    1. Pictures are one of my weaknesses and sometimes when I see pics of the kids when they were small, the feeling is akin to finding out someone stole your child. THAT kid used to run around my house...where is he? We miss him.

  6. I'm going to try to make the Bonehead bloghop this month...

Ah, A.P. classes, I remember them from the kidling's high school days; you done good Mom.

  7. Good morning, dear Cherdo!

Is that your Gonzo? He looks just like his mom. I can tell he has lots of snarksense. I can also tell how much he's changed since that wedding picture was taken. Frankly, he and his brothers looked a little pasty-faced back then.

I can feel how proud you are of your son as he accelerates toward a bright future. Joni Mitchell's "Circle Game" is a great song for this occasion, one that reminds us of our relationship to time. Time waits for no man. We have no control over it. Use it or lose it.

    Turn around and you're tiny,
    Turn around and you're grown,
Turn around and you're a hubzam with babes of your own.

Fun fact: Mick's mama called him the Jaggernaut.

    Happy Thursday, dear friend Cherdo!

Yep, that's Gonzo. My favorite picture of him, as a matter of fact. We were at a co op and he was wearing his favorite yellow sweatshirt with a spider and spiderweb on it. I had no idea they were taking pictures for the kids (after all, we homeschool...I'd expect it in public school). Gonzo was pretty excited to do a "school" picture - hence the grin. Luckily, he was dressed appropriately and clean, ha ha.

Time flies for sure. And time does wound all heels. So there's that...

Have a great day, s.d. knight!

  8. How is it that kids grow up so quickly and we stay the same? LOL
I seriously wish my school offered dual enrollment when I was in high school. I would have been all over that!
Great song. I haven't heard that in years.

    1. I've often asked that question...I'm sure I look exactly the same as I did when I was 21 - NOT.

Joni Mitchell did an interview recently....man, she looks rough. I was surprised. I always loved her music.

  9. What a great song, and I haven't thought about her for a long time. Such a clear voice. Next it's grandchildren who grow up even quicker than the kids did.

  10. Well, my comment on your bonehead announcement seems a bit silly reading this... since you've already mastered the art of combining two different "hops."

I'd never heard this song, but I really like it. Thank you! I'm going to make a point of listening to it again... and again... and again.

  11. I have no kids but I can't believe my niece is 20! It must feel somewhat bittersweet that they are growing up and leaving the nest. My mom loved when we were young, proud of what we have become and always remembered the "simpler" times. Great song to match this
