Don't Throw This Back Thursday...

Okay, I know I have a snark gene, but I'm totally willing to give credit where credit is due. Steven Tyler (yes, that Steven Tyler) has totally surprised me with his new video "If Love is Your Name." I quickly tire of all the efforts of established musicians aimed at re-invention. That may not even be what is going on here with this half of the Toxic Twins.

Truth be told, he doesn't look half bad in this video. I've seen some pictures of him lately that looked a little Keith-Richards-ish. He truly needs someone giving him the once-over before he goes out. Maybe it is time to put away the eyeliner, too, Steven. I'm just sayin'...

In your defense, your dental work is excellent. That bad fall in South America didn't set you back, grin wise. Let me offer an empathetic "ouch," however late that may be.

Most surprising fact? A country vibe for the front man of Aerosmith. Check! That's pretty amazing.

I'd like to hear my peeps chime in. What do you think of the new video?

[Note to Steven: The gal in the video? Love isn't her name...it's "granddaughter."]

  1. Good morning, dear Cherdo!

Dude looks like a lady - NOT - but hey, that's a terrific song and video by Steven Tyler! I agree with you that he doesn't look half bad in the vid. In fact, he looks half GOOD! I also like the country rock sound and theme of "If Love is Your Name."

It's late. I'm tired. Time for bed. At this hour of the night I look like a cross between Steven Tyler and Steve Buscemi with just a hint of Keith Richards.

Thanks for uncovering and reviewing this fine effort by Tyler. If this is the new direction he's taking, I'm going along for the ride!

    Happy Thursday, dear friend Cherdo!

    1. Dude would look like a down-on-her-luck bag lady, maybe. How unfair of me to post two unflattering pictures while trying to make the point that I really like this new video! I'm the worst fan ever, ha ha.

I thought he looked pretty good in the video, too. If he's had work done, that doc actually knows what he's doing. Obviously not using Barry Manilow's doc...I saw him on the tube on July 4th and he looked so artificial...I was crushed...."Oh, Mandy, we'll you came and you gave without taking..." Oops...sorry...

Rest, Shady! We can't affort plastic surgery. Clean livin' will have to suffice. :-)

      Have a lovely, LAZY day.

  2. >>... He truly needs someone giving him the once-over before he goes out.

Actually, what he needs is someone giving him the once-over thrice!

Of course you remember the slogan "Never let them see you sweat."
Well, so many of these "hip" celebrities try so hard to be fashionable, or to create a new fashion, that you can actually see them sweating in the process.

Steven Tyler... gee, got yer Johnny Dipp/Keith Reetards "Pirate" look on?
And there's Lady GagGag, who was never more than the poor woman's version of Ma-hoe-donna.

Someday, I will be the only person on the entire planet without a tattoo, and the other countless billions of people will look at me and say: "Check out that dude! He has no tattoo. What a conformist he is!"

DUH! I shoulda gone to college where I would have learned to think for myself.

    1. Think about the average man going out for the evening to a special event. Shave, shower, put on decent clothes...maybe a little cologne...brush off the shoes.

Now, think about that first picture of Steven Tyler, taken at an event, and imagine him looking in the mirror and saying: "Yep...this is the outfit. It just needs sunglasses."

I don't have a tattoo; I never will. We are the NON-CONFORMISTS; everyone else does, apparently. My rationale is simple: if I can't like a blouse till it wears out, what makes me think I could put a permanent image on my body and be happy with it for the rest of my life? I couldn't! I know me! For the people who know themselves and are forever happy with their decision (I know quite a few), go for it! It's your canvas, paint what you will! I'm just talking about me.

Think about the girls/guys who decided to tattoo a boyfriend's/girlfriend's name on themselves? I used to get called on the Medicaid hotline, begging for us to cover removal. One girl cried and I felt really bad, but that is not something that program would ever cover. But - I feel her pain.

      >>DUH! I shoulda gone to college where I would have learned to think for myself.<<

Yep. That would happen at college...(cough).

  3. I once knew a guy that loved country music but couldn't stand to look at the singers. Steven Tyler has joined that group. I don't think I'm going to walk that way.

  4. A surprising turn from Mr. Tyler; a pity he doesn't have the video's stylist on hand to dress him every day.

One wonders how he has had such pretty daughters and grand daughters.

    1. Truer words... But you have to high-five his staying power; he is in the Paul McCartney level of career longevity.

  6. Living like a rock star is hard on a body. Song is decent. I like the gypsy feel of the video. And "granddaughter" had the good sense to turn around and go home to Daddy. LOL I viewed her as symbolic of love, and that she visited him.

    1. I agree, she was symbolic of love. But when I saw that lovely gal walking towards him, I literally said "don't you dare smooch that man..." There must have been a 40+ age difference.

    2. I agree that the rock star life is hard even without substance abuse so he's aged well.

    3. All things considered, remarkably well!! He's still upright.

  7. Ok now just stop it!! Did you cheat and invade my thoughts on my blog post this morning? We both posted same song about Steven. You are my sister from another Mister for sure!!
I love him and I love the song. The End. He's awesome and his band Aerosmith is awesome.
    Have a wonderful Thursday!!

    1. Hey, that was scheduled to post at midnight last night and the first blog I read this morning was yours - what ARE the odds?? There is no way we could have known what the other one was posting, ha ha ha. AND I also didn't see this comment until after I posted on yours!! Another cloning: you and I both informing each other about our posts.

      That made my day, girl!

  8. Well, I think he did a great job on this video and the song. He has an unusual voice, and I saw a different side of him when he was a judge on TV Idol. The guy is really pretty sharp! And what the heck....those rock stars do what they have to do to be noticed! I like the song, and the girl is stunning!

    1. The video was really good, I thought.

If any of us really knew any of these "superstars" we'd probably realize that had a lot more going on than you'd suspect. That level of success and longevity is not accidental or a whim. Even the crazy clothing (that I mocked) is the sign of someone who knows they have to find a way to grab attention at these events - and he did.

  9. I saw him without a top on (in a picture)-he had saggy boobs...The Horror....The Horror. He is on my list of the undead although this tune is quite good

  11. Song was pretty good. Video I had to abandon because, frankly I'd like to think the singer isn't just this side of a zombie. That and, Vevo can stop telling me what else to watch anytime now...
