Hump Day Sing-a-Long: Gonzo Gets an Edumacashun

It's another milestone at Clan Cherdo as Gonzo registered for a few college classes he'll take during his Senior year of high school. There was a time when I was sitting with my young scholar, doing Kindergarten lessons, and thinking "only twelve more years."

{{{POOF!!}}} Those years passed too quickly. Let's do a Hump Day Sing-a-long to celebrate Gonzo getting more edumacashun.  In case you don't know the tune I'm parodying, here it is:

This Boy
Sung to the tune of...uh, This Boy
by the Beatles

This boy
Never sat in skool
Doesn't act like a fool
This boy
 homeschooled
 every day.

His lunch
Wasn't on a tray
(I could have made it that way)
But this boy
homeschooled
every day.

Chorus:
Oh and this boy
Had no sick days
Worked through ick-days
But oh my-y-y-y

This boy
Won't have to say
"Today,
do you want
fri-i-i-ies?

Someday
He'll push my wheelchair
And I hope he won't care
I homeschooled
That boy
everyday.

(Payback isn't a mother...it's YOUR mother.) Good job, son!

  1. Good morning, dear Cherdo!

My parents used to call me the smartest one in the dumb class but it looks like your son got me beat by a country mile. Taking college classes during your senior year of high school is big league stuff. Way to go, Gonzo!

I thoroughly enjoyed your clever sing-along parody, dear friend Cherdo, and I wish you a happy hump day. God bless!

    1. I think you may have been dumb like a fox, Shady. Well played, sir; well played.

We're pretty proud of Gonzo and I think he'll do fine. But brother...time is speeding past me. Zoom!

Welcome to my new schedule for a while. Post at midnight, reply at 11 p.m. the next day, ha ha. My days are gone before I know it.

Have a great day, Shadysaurus Rex! (Hey, that reminded me of Blogosaurus...remember?).

  5. I can't imagine the commitment it takes to home school your children, and it looks like you have done a spectacular job, my friend. Love the song, and the reworked words are fabulous!

    1. It really does consume your world -- in a good way. Piecing together the optimal education (i.e., balancing needs, requirements, talents and desires) is tricky at times. One year, he took more classes than he could submit for credit. But, it's been great for everyone.

Juggernaut was the first homeschooler and he graduated with honors and gave the graduation welcome address. Mama could have burst with pride.

    1. All credit goes to the boy - he did the hard part. Then again, Dad paid for it...it's not cheap, ha ha.

      Thank you so much, Holli!

  7. Gonzo sure is a happy young man. That's nice.

He might want to cut some of the lemonade
and banana cream pie out of his diet though.

    1. He has Bananatitis B. It's the good kind.

Truthfully, he is a happy guy. Very easy to get along with and responsible to boot. God knew I was worn out by the time he came along, ha ha.

We're pretty proud of all the kidderoonies.

    1. That is fantastic! I don't know why all the kids don't take advantage of the opportunity to get a jump start. Those classes can count for HS and college at the same time.

  12. That perseverance will give him a leg up in school and life Cheryl. I never had the patience for home schooling but I know many successful people who did.

    1. When it is a good fit, it works so well. There's nothing wrong with public or private school, if that is the best fit for a student.

      Yeah, Class of 2016!

  13. How beautiful! I love what you wrote to go along with the Beatles song. I read it in that way. It seems more people are doing home schooling and considering what is being taught, or NOT being taught, this may be a better way to go!
