Celebrate the Small Things & Friendly Blog-Zone Awards

It's Friday and time to Celebrate the Small Things!
Welcome to our wonderful oasis of mini-celebrations.
Hosted by Lexa Cain, and her wonderful co-hosts:
L.G. Keltner @ Writing Off The Edge
Tonja @ Kidbits

It's been a great week and full of many blessings, but here are my favorite:

1. Gonzo got his cast off of his arm and he was so happy! He gets to start some PT this week and finally bear a little weight on his leg.

2. Magoo and Lady L moved into a new apartment. It's always exciting to get set up in a new place. When his muscles stop hurting, he'll realize this.

3. I almost forgot! My Juggernaut has a birthday! He is the most fun guy on the planet and has a personality that this planet can barely sustain - and I love him so.

Now go and visit these other bloggers who are celebrating!

Many blog buddies contacted me privately this week and showed concern. You don't know how much I loved that! I've not had the mental energy to participate in blogging much but it's nice to know that people are genuinely kind and supportive.

In honor of those bloggers, I've created a new badge:

Everyone needs a friend, even in the blog world. This is for those bloggers who make me glad I can visit their blog. They keep a friendly blog-zone and really, we need to celebrate that spirit! Life is too short for anything less.

Send this badge far and wide! Right click on it, even if you're not on today's list, and nominate anyone and everyone who strives for a friendly blog-zone. If you didn't make today's list, grab the badge and nominate your friendly blog pals anyway - don't wait!

There's too many friendly blogs to mention, so I'll start by naming a few, in no particular order. If you're not on the list this week, you'll probably be there in the near future! I like to follow friendly blogs:

  1. Oh, my dear friend, DOC CHERDO, I hardly know what to say (between GOLs 'n' LOLs). This is too funny, because I hardly think anyone considers ANY of my blogs (present or defunct) as "Friendly", first and foremost.

    Let's see...

    "Highly Opinionated"
    "Politically Incorrect in the Xtreme"
    "Esoteric Truth"
    "Mean 'N' Nasty"
    "No-Goodnik Upsetting the Apple Cart"
    "Americonned Sheeple Waker-Upper"

Those are all terms / expressions more likely associated with my blog(s) than is the phrase "Friendly Blog-Zone".

And I don't normally play along with Blog Tagging and Blog Awards but... I'm gonna make an exception this once. This is the FIRST (and likely last) "Blog Award" that will ever appear on a blog of mine. Yep. I'm gonna display it. THANKS for the honor. (And don't tell me that the names were posted "in no particular order". I choose to believe they WERE posted in a particular order. ...Well, I choose to think the first one was, anyway. HA!)

Not only am I gonna display this award on my blog, but I'm even gonna pass it on to one person. And I know just the person I'm gonna give it to. I think she might appreciate it.

    Thanks again, DOC!

    1. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WATCH ME "CALL OUT" STEPHEN T. McCARTHY!

The "zone" around our blogs is the place were we show our real self. Having seen your real self in action, I disagree.

It's so easy to say you're a freind but harder to BE a freind, particularly in times of trouble. The past weeks have been tough for our family as we dealt with my son's accident and I'm so glad to see there is light at the end of the tunnel. But in times when I wasn't able to see that light, I had a friend who texted me, inquired about the "status" and even contacted other people and asked for them to pray for Gonzo and kept them updated.

Who do you think that whipper snapper might have been?: Stephen T. McCarthy

You never asked anything in return; blog world disappeared and you had no expectations. You were just a good friend who offered support and prayer. Consistently. And I know you had your own stuff to worry about but you put it aside when you were talking to me. Selfless...not mean and nasty.

It's not what you write or do that makes friends; it's who you really are and how you treat friends and others. One day we'll delete these blogs and we'll still have a cushion of memories to maintain a friendship.

And I believe you are your online persona just as much as I believe fishducky is a fishduck and Robin (Your Daily Dose) is a dog stuck between two birch trees. :-)

  9. Great news for Gonzo and the rest of the family. Onward to recovery.

Bloggers should be friendly and supportive. We don't have to agree about everything, but we should certainly be nice about it.

    1. Well put! In fact, the alternative opinions are welcome, too. Who wants to dictate that? It would crush the interest level of comments if everyone was just "required" to mirror the posts. I don't always have that good of an idea myself - I need the opposing views to spice it up a bit.

But we all can be nice. :-)

  10. I am deeply touched...really I am. You have gone through a horrible time these past few months and you need healing just as much as your son because you are the main care giver. Thank you so much for this award. I so enjoy your blog-you are funny and you bring a bright spot. I needed this since I miss my mom even though I can visit her...she is slowly disappearing. Thank you again. I am already thinking of people I will send it to. I am very happy that your son is out of his cast and is moving onward and upward

    1. Oh, sweetie, I know what you mean about people slipping away. That is happening to me, too. I've pushed it back in my mind while I deal with Gonzo but it's out there...looming on the horizon.

So - we celebrate the good stuff! 'Cause the bad stuff will be here always; life is like that. We'll just ignore it, brush it aside, and go forward smiling.

      God bless, meine Freundin.

  11. What a fabulous idea to come up with a badge to identify extra special friendly blogs written by extra special friendly people. There's lots of them out there, and they are what makes this whole blogging gig worthwhile. I'm sorry I didn't know about your son's accident, but I'm very grateful to hear he's on the mend, and things are getting back to normal for y'all.

    1. There ARE lots of them out there! That's why I made a point of saying I was not listing all of them - I couldn't possibly! I'm so grateful for that.

Normal is not here yet but I embrace every single thing that gets us closer.

I been called a lot of not so nice names lately.
But I am so so happy you mentioned me. Mostly because I adore
Your blog and two wonderful blogs I now follow because of you.

I lighted a candle for your son.

    1. I totally mean you, girl! And I know that you've been grieved by some weirdos lately and I say ignore them! They don't count - not to us. The world is giving too much attention to bad things and people who hurt others. We're not going to do that.

A candle for Gonzo? And you wonder why I love you so....

  15. Yay for your son getting his cast off! I'm sure he'll be back to 100% in no time (the young heal so fast). Moving...blerg...so stressful and exhausting even if you're happy about the new place. I moved around a lot until a few years ago. So relieved to be settled now. Great idea on the blog award!! :)

    1. The move was put on a back burner when the accident happened, Lexa, so we are back to house hunting in the Spring.

It seems like a small inconvenience but when the whole left side of your body is damaged the extra fiberglass (cast) is a huge pain, ha ha. So we've celebrated the removal of the leg and arm cast BIG TIME.

  21. Many, many, many apologies for taking so long to get by here. I'm afraid life is overtaking me.

First, I'm so glad to hear that your son is recovering nicely and will continue to pray for a complete recovery and return to normal for his life and yours. What happened is truly a parents worst nightmare.

Second, a thousand thank yous for the award. I am truly grateful (and somewhat relieved) that you feel that way about my space. I'm not sure I belong on the same list with the others you have awarded here, but I'll gladly accept your kindness as graciously as possible.

It is always a pleasure to visit here, even though I don't make it by often. Your humor and kindness to others is greatly appreciated in a world that is becoming more aggressive and possessive over these 'word in space' that we write. It has been a heartening example to me, that you have been able to keep such a positive attitude and spread your personal brand of empathy while going through the recent trials. Keep up the good work. The blogging world needs more people like yourself, who strive to present a positive face and a friendly space for others to visit.

    1. We all have things going on in our lives. The unspoken burdens may be far more difficult to bear; we are never fully aware of the whole story each visitor carries around. As much as I like snark for humor's sake, I try not to be hurtful. It's not easy to be positive and REAL. But it is certainly worthwhile when you get to share your space with a really nice bunch of folks - just like you. :-)

  22. Hey now, don't let people think we're friendly. They might just come over expecting kindness.

Really, though, thank you for including us on your list for this new award. We don't care how often you blog or what you blog about. We're just always glad to hear that things are going well with you personally, especially with your son recovering as he is. This whole blogging thing isn't just about sharing random thoughts or selling books or whatever else people use it for. We believe it's for making connections with people. And we're happy to have been able to make a connection with you.
