The Watercolor Course You've Always Wanted

Pick up the paintbrush right now and get ready to create your own beautiful watercolor creations. Step one: read and learn with Leslie Frontz's new book, The Watercolor Course You've Always Wanted: Guided Lessons for Beginners and Experienced Artists. There's nothing misleading about this title; all the tips and tidbits of information you've always wanted are assembled in one place.

Beginning with the basics, Frontz covers materials while getting right to the point of what works and what doesn't with no-nonsense, expert insight. As the author writes "...there are more supplies available than one artist could master in a lifetime." The focus is on "how" materials are useful in achieving artistic goals, as opposed to a long list of items one must buy. Conveniently, the wonderfully done photography clearly illustrates the tools and techniques in action. Exactly what you need to know, when you need to see it. Visual learners will appreciate

The bigger issues of composition such as values, color mixing, and subject matter are demonstrated in a loose style that is plainly laid out, step by step. Artwork by the author is included in the book for examples. Where some books might gloss over these important technical aspects, Frontz provides simple steps that improve your art efforts immediately. Setting up a palette easily becomes a lesson rather than a prep task.

Artist? Of course, she is definitely talented. First and foremost, however, Leslie Frontz is a teacher who can delight and inspire other artists of all ages and abilities.

[I received this book free from the Blogging for Books program, in exchange for my honest review. That happens to be the only kind of review I do... so, we're good.]

BOTB: Bowie vs Bowie Singing "Starman"

That's two virtual landslides for me as mature Bowie of 1999 wallops psychedelic Bowie of 1972.

Battle of the Bands: "Starman"

This music blogging event was first introduced by my dear friends and super peeps  - everybody, give them a heartfelt "thank you":

Our battles take place twice a month: on the 1st and 15th.  The results come six days later: on the 7th and 21st. That's when I return, total all of the votes, including mine (if necessary), and announce the winner.

It's been a sad week for music lovers with the loss of the Thin White Duke. On January 10, 2016, David Bowie passed away from liver cancer in New York City.

Stephen T. McCarthy presents...

Well, it was a pretty clear that Alex Goot clobbered Benjamin Khent and KHS with his rendition of "Fight Song" but I still love both of you. Add one vote for the original, too, just to round out the battle.

Question of the Month with Michael D'Agostino

Michael D'Agostino of A Life Examined (that sweet thunder from down under) started this blog hop with these words:

"Your readers would like to know a little more about you. Show them who you are by taking part in the Question of the Month bloghop. On the first Monday of each month, we answer the question that gets posted here. Sign up on the list (on Michael's site) to join the fun ;) With every question, remember that the important part is explaining your answer. And please, if you have any suggestions for new questions, share them in the comments section. I bet you've got some great ideas for us."

This month's question is:
What are some New Year’s resolutions you’ve had in the past?
