BOTB Results: "Shades of Gray"

"Here we come...walking down the street..."  (Monkees' theme song, for the uninformed or youthful)

Davy, Mickey, Mike and Peter - congrats! The Monkees beat Sons of Champlin easily but I have to say that Sons of Champlin were worthy opponents in this battle. I liked both versions, however, I'm always leaning heavily towards the Monkees. Ah...memories...

To celebrate their victory, the guys will sing us out once more with a more upbeat tune:

A big, heartfelt thanks to all the lovely blog buddies who provided concern and advice for my "lost love" submission to The Lost & Found Valentine's Edition Blog Hop.  I was truly touched; thank you so much.

Last, but not least, visit the other folks who participate in the Battle of the Band and see their results! How did you do? Did you pick the winner? There's only one way to find out:

  1. Hey, 14 to 8 isn't too bad. That's not a complete one-sided beating. Turns out I'm on the winning side, but that's because I have a great taste in music, or so my ears tell me.

  2. Nice battle, and yep, I picked this one right!
Gosh, this must be one of the rare videos that shows Mike without a toboggan, eh?

    1. Yay, Dixie!! Mike did love that toboggan...he lost a lot of hair later in life. Maybe he should have let it wave free while he could.

  8. I can't remember voting. Maybe I didn't. I like the video of Daydream Believer. I read that when the producers of the TV show created The Monkees, they didn't put the members in the positions they really wanted them in. They made Davy the lead singer, although they wanted the lead to be Mickey. Micky? Davy was so small, they thought he'd look silly behind the drums. Of course, Mickey ended up singing a lot of the songs while Davy rattled a tambourine and looked cute.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. I checked: the spellings are Davy and Micky. The way they pretend to play instruments (most hilariously Micky with the tambourine) in this video cracks me up. Apparently, when they went to record an album, they took their instruments and thought they would play. They were shocked that studio musicians played. Have you seen the documentary "The Wrecking Crew"? I think I wrote about it on my blog. It's an interesting look at some of the most successful studio musicians. They especially liked working with Brian Wilson because he knew exactly what he wanted. He could hear the musical arrangements in his head and then write them out.

    2. As my Queen of Grammar and all things correct, I'm grateful for all the spellchecking, girl. And I'm sorry I missed your call!

Someone else told me about The Wrecking Crew and I have to make a point to watch that. Gonzo gave it a huge thumbs up, too (naturally, 'cause he is your son).

  10. When I was in my 20s, we went to the Planet Hollywood opening in Nashville. We had to get there super early to make sure we were at the red ropes as the celebs walked by. (We ended up behind the press, so we didn't get the front row seat we wanted. UGH.) Anyway, at some point they played this song and our small group started singing along with it. By the second chorus, the entire HUGE group around us was singing along. To this day, I can't help but smile when I hear that song, feeling like I was part of starting something big!

    1. That is funny - I love when things like that happen. Once, at an INXS concert, my friend and I stood up and danced when they sang "Never Tear Us Apart" and the whole auditorium joined it. It's like a magical moment - so cool.

  13. DOC CHERDO ~
I was very glad to hear that Davy had always been cool when you met him. He was easily my favorite Monkee. And by the way, 'DAYDREAM BELIEVER' is my very favorite Monkees song. That one's a love!

I own the debut album by The Monkees and I play it every year on my birthday (because my Mom gave it to me as a birthday gift when I turned 8 years old).

Did you listen to YOUR copy of 'The Monkees' today? Today, did someone buy you a dog, 'cause you need a friend now?

    1. To this day, I know all the lyrics of all the Monkees and Beatles songs...I didn't listen to an album but I YouTubed all my favorites.

Hope you're having a good week, buddy!

See? Even though I didn't pick the Monkeys this time around, I do love their music. Thanks for the additional song.
