Favorite Characters, Favorite Lines: I is for Iron Man

I'm back! It's that time again (uh...April) and time for the 2016 Blogging from A to Z challenge  This is my 2nd year attempting to complete the challenge without shame. So far...bleh, I'm trying, lol.

Thanks to the creator, Arlee Bird (Tossing It Out), and the team that helps make thewhole A-to-Z shebang happen. A list of great participants can be found at the A to Z Blog site.  The basic idea is to blog every day in April except Sundays (26 days), alphabetically, theme optional. Of course, I had to go with a theme: Favorite Characters, Favorite Lines. Today is a true favorite; I loved Robert Downey, Jr., as Iron Man (Tony Stark).

I is for Ironman!

Tony Stark:
I'm sorry. This is the fun-vee. The hum-drum-vee is back there.

Tony Stark to Nick Fury:
"I've already told you, I don't want to join your super secret boy band."

Couldn't have said it better, Tony:

"Iron Man. That's kind of catchy. It's got a nice ring to it. I
mean it's not technically accurate. The suit's a gold titanium
alloy, but it's kind of provocative, the imagery anyway."

"Yeah, I can fly."

chris hemsworth and robert downey Jr. in the same movie...there is a god:

Agent Phil Coulson: Mr. Stark.

Tony Stark: Yeah?
Agent Phil Coulson: Agent Coulson.
Tony Stark: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, the guy from the...
Agent Phil Coulson: Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.
Tony Stark: Whew! God, you really need a new name for that.
Agent Phil Coulson: Yeah, I hear that a lot.

That could run your heart for fifty lifetimes!

Tony Stark:
Yeah. Or something big for fifteen minutes.

  1. That line's hilarious (the "genius billionaire..." one), and it just got a lot hotter in here. Fun, sexy post, Cherdo.

  2. Another movie I've heard of. One of these days I may even watch it. When it comes to Netflix streaming.

  3. Great film selection. I love Tony Stark, Robert Downy Jr plays him well.

  4. Didn't see this movie... My favorite scotch quote comes from Steely Dan.

  5. I do love me some Tony Stark. He had the best lines in the Avengers too :D "Shakespeare in the park..."

  6. That man is playing Galaga! Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did.

  7. This could become a long comment. I'll try to keep it short(er).

I know this is about Iron Man rather than Robert Downey, Jr., but the thing is that I can't really separate them in my head. So, with that in mind, there are some things about RDJ that require being said.

Back in the early 90s RDJ played Larry Paul on Ally McBeal. He was in plenty of movies before that, and I liked several of those, but I fell in love with him as Larry Paul. That was (unbeknownst to me) when he was at the height of his drug addiction. He did some crazy ass things and ended up going to jail. That meant they had to write him out of the story on Ally McBeal. That messed with me big-time.

At the time, I was very wrapped up in how similar my life was to Ally McBeal's and her finding love with Larry Paul gave me hope that I might find it with someone. When that didn't work out (and Ally never did find love again), I plummeted into this place where I felt like this whole "love thing" was just going to end very badly. And it was all RDJ's fault, thank you very much. I nearly wrote him a whackadoodle letter while he in jail explaining this very situation and that he better clean himself up... because, you know, OTHER people's love lives were hanging in the balance here.

So, you can (maybe) understand how thrilled I am that RDJ did exactly that (without my non-existent letter to motivate him). I'm really proud of him for pulling himself out of addiction and becoming the person he always hoped, wanted, knew deep inside he could be.

It turns out my love life still sucks. I've (mostly) let go of the notion that it was all Ally and Larry's fault that it turned out this way. I'm trying to focus on the fact that both of them are happy IRL. So, I still have a shot, too!

All that said... why are movie franchises deciding now is the time to make our favorite superheroes fight one another? Why? Why? Why?

    1. There's no such thing as love. That's the conclusion I've reached. You might have some chemistry with another person and you make it last through getting old because you depend on each other, but other than my love of God and my children, I assure you there is no such thing as love. Therefore, you aren't missing out on anything. Thanks for thinking the thoughts that got RDJ over his longtime addiction. I'm glad he's stayed clean and sober.

  8. LOVE Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr., Black Sabbath (seeing them perform Iron Man in concert was amazing!), the whole thing! Thanks for making me smile with this fabulous post. ☺

    1. I always sing that song in my head EVERY time I see the movie reference Iron Man. RDJ was amazing in the movies!

  9. This is the screwball of superhero movies.

  10. I loved Iron Man! I didn't think I would like it but went because my ex wanted to see it. I was thrilled with it and so happy we went to see it. Robert Downy Jr was fabulous. Thanks for reminding me of this movie... I'd like to see it again.

  11. I've never met Iron Man, but I think Robert Downey, Jr. is so darn hot that I'm starting to sweat. Oh. It's a hot flash. Never mind.

    1. I loved you in A Christmas Story, by the way. Hahahahahahahaha!

  12. I am not a fan of most superhero movies, but this was one that I really enjoyed.

  13. There was a time Leo wanted to be Tony Stark not for the money but because he was Iron Man

  14. Iron Man is a great choice for I! He had some great lines. :)

Cap is still my favorite, though. :D

  15. Hey my I was Ironman as well. He is such a great character. Love the quotes used here

Thanks for your personal yada, yada, yada,
Love, Cherdo
