Our battles take place twice a month: on the 1st and 15th. The results come six days later: on the 7th and 21st. That's when I return, total all of the votes, including mine (if necessary), and announce the winner.
Hubzam, Gonzo, and I are claiming to have emerged victorious from The Summer That Nearly Broke Our Will to Survive as we conquered scholarships, graduation, surgery, physical therapy, selling our house and purchasing another house in an 8 week period. Big thanks to the always helpful son #1, Juggernaut, and son #2, Magoo, for lifting above and beyond the call of duty.
Such a victory requires a special Battle of the Bands is in order. Feels like it's time for a battle of icons! One of my favorite rock classic songs is "Tumbling Dice."
Let the battle begin!
CONTENDER #1: THE ROLLING STONES
CONTENDER #2: LINDA RONSTADT
Somebody's gotta be number one and neither performer is a rookie. In fact, these videos were from the artists in their prime!
So, who will you vote for? Tell me in the comments below. Will it be The ever-tumbling Rolling Stones or Sweet Linda Ronstadt?
Let's go full on Highlander on these performers, 'cause in the end, there can be only ONE. Fortunately, that doesn't apply to the battles. In the end, there can be a whole list of battles and I encourage you to visit ALL:
It's hard to beat Linda Ronstadts' voice. She has one upped a lot of groups with a cover.
ReplyDeleteShe has that great rock voice, too! Range, depth, and she makes it seem like it's effortless.
DeleteA VOTE FOR RONSTADT! Thanks, Mike!
No doubt that Ronstadt does a great job with this tune and she has a killer band behind her, but the song belongs to the Stones and that's where my vote goes.
ReplyDeleteLee
Tossing It Out
You can't go wrong with that vote!
DeleteA VOTE FOR THE STONES! Thanks, Lee!
I love Linda, but Mick owns this song so I must vote for The Stones. How is my Favorite Younger Man?
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Rumor has it that a certain young man has done so well at therapy and healing, that he may be walking with only a brace in the next two weeks!
DeleteGot your message, but had company in from Viet Nam. Expect a call soon, Janie-poo!
A VOTE FOR THE STONES! Thanks, Janie!!
Both are very good in different ways.
ReplyDeleteA VOTE FOR CONGENIAL NEUTRALITY from my buddy, Stephen! Thanks! :-)
DeleteLinda is just so cool - gotta give it to the dreamboat with the killer pipes.
ReplyDeleteAmen, call 'em like you see 'em, SITD!
DeleteA VOTE FOR RONSTADT! Thanks for stopping by!
Linda is just so cool - gotta give it to the dreamboat with the killer pipes.
ReplyDelete...still true...
DeleteI'm loving Linda Ronstadt for this song, much more that Mick Jagger. My vote is going to Linda.
ReplyDeleteMary
Jingle Jangle Jungle
Hey, good to see you, Mary! I think they both do a great job on this one but people have favs, right?
DeleteA VOTE FOR RONSTADT! Thanks, Mary!
Gee, first I vote for Linda Ronstadt over Roy Orbison, now over Mick Jagger... she just sounds so good today!
ReplyDeleteYou've got her back, John. She doesn't know how good she has it with your loyalty. I'll drop her a note, buddy.
DeleteA VOTE FOR RONSTADT! Thanks, John!
I remember this progression well. I heard Linda's first, really liked it. Years later heard the Stones, blew me away. Stones in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteWell, the heart wants what the heart wants. You can't lose with these two, ha ha.
DeleteA VOTE FOR THE STONES! Thanks, Chris!
Wow! That was a close one! But I'll give my vote to Linda Ronstadt on points.
ReplyDeleteYes, ma'am! It is a close call and one could argue that both these artists own this song.
DeleteA VOTE FOR RONSTADT! Thanks, Pop Tart!

Cherdo, so glad to see you survived. With God all things are possible, right? ;) This is an easy pick for me, I'm giving my vote to Linda Ronstadt. I just never was much of a Stones fan. Good battle, my friend, and thanks for popping by to weigh in my round of BoTB.
ReplyDeleteAmen, Cathy! I needed His help and got it. That's the only way I could push through.
DeleteA VOTE FOR RONSTADT! Thanks, Cathy!
Although I love love love The Rolling Stones, I'm giving this one to Linda Ronstadt. I really liked her version of the song. I love the Stones version but of the two versions presented here, I was much more into Linda's.
ReplyDeleteGreat song choice Cherdo!
Michele at Angels Bark
Howdy, Michele! Linda Ronstadt is raking the votes in this time. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteANOTHER VOTE FOR LINDA RONSTADT!
Ok....you have been one busy, busy lady and a busy family. I'm so glad to hear your son is doing better each day. I hope the move went well also. I am giving this to Linda Ronstadt because I love her voice and just feels she delivered it better. Sorry Mik
ReplyDeleteShe does have a great voice, I have to agree, and she makes it look so easy.
DeleteA VOTE FOR RONSTADT! Thanks, Birgit!
Well, DOC, was my vote EVER -- even for a single second -- in question?
ReplyDeleteQuite obviously, DOC, I vote for the DOC. After all, he may be seeing double, but he's STILL got a gun for each of us! And who knew "Tumbling Dice" better'n the Gambling Doc?!

We must be on the same mental plain...I was just writing about Doc as I answered some questions for Alex Cavanaugh. Check his blog out on Monday.
DeleteThe silver cup is in place: I'm home, officially. Doc is docked.
Glad to know you and your family survived all those difficulties! Linda's version was good, but I have to go with The Stones. They own it, literally and figuratively. Looks like this is a minority view. Oh well!
ReplyDeleteYou and me both, girl! Gonzo kept telling me something along the lines of: "...next year, we will look back and say it wasn't so bad...we just got to get through it and look forward to THAT..."
DeleteThe Stones needed your help, Deb! Thanks on their behalf, ha ha.
A VOTE FOR THE STONES!
Hi, DOC CHERDO! I'm back to cast a second vote. (I can do that because I'm a dead Democrat.)
ReplyDeleteI've found that I simply CANNOT watch Mick Jagger when he's performing. Somehow it makes me feel all icky and compels me to start a barroom brawl just to reconfirm my own heterosexual masculinity.
I needed to come back here and LISTEN to the Rolling Stones version WITHOUT watching the video this time. Because the last time the visual images just knocked my ears all outta whack.
Both of these are fun to listen to. I'm really not a Stones fan and they only do a few songs I like (particularly 'Gimme Shelter') but I always forget about how good 'Tumbling Dice' is.
After listening to both recordings with "No Lookee", I'm giving my vote to The Stones, but it was pretty close.

You can cast as many as you want to cast. Attach those votes to a fly rod and pull in somethin'.
DeleteSometimes, videos are obnoxious. Too much flailing around, distracting backgrounds and crazy "storylines" that have nothing to do with the lyrics drive me crazy. Hey, I actually pay attention to the videos while they roll by and they better match up with the performance, ha ha. Amazingly, I had a hard time finding a version of "Tumbling Dice" by the Stones that was both a great performance and a great video. :-/ Meh...
Thanks for TWO, TWO, TWO votes in one! A VOTE FOR THE STONES! Hurrah!
Thanks, doggle-brudder! ;-)
Great song, Stones get my vote
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mike! I'm just getting around to counting, lol.
DeleteA VOTE FOR THE STONES!!
Hi dear friend, I hope you are doing well. Sorry I missed this. My vote would have gone for The Stones.
