Wow, that wasn't even close! Asia, The Traveling Wilburys, and Damn Yankees: three beloved bands loaded with talent (not a stinker in the mix!), but in the end, The Traveling Wilburys beat 'em without mercy.
Need a chuckle? Be sure to go to Wilbury's website to find out your Wilbury name (bottom of the page). Turns out, I'm Josephine Wilbury...
The passing of Tom Petty might have added to the nostalgic tug on the heart. If the Wilburys weren't so awesome in the first place, perhaps we'd have a different outcome. As it were, I've got to believe they would have taken it, regardless.
Rest in Peace, Charlie...
You know the drill...Wilburys, sing us out:
These lovely peeps have battles scores to share, too! Check 'em out and I'll be here for the next battle on the 15th of November. We can talk turkey then.
Really? Must've been the timing with Tom Petty's death. Asia certainly had more albums and hits.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that it wasn't close, too.
DeleteAll right, Traveling Wilburys!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
That was a darn impressive win. But not particularly surprising since the Wilburys are the best!

Tossing It Out
I can yield the win to Tom. He was a genius and will be missed.
ReplyDeleteGee. Normally, I like to shout for a re-count and insist that the result was skewed by hanging chads and such. But this one was such a runaway that I would feel silly screaming about Russian collusion and foreign influence in the voting.

Asia was pretty good... and Prog Rock was always one of the genres I liked. But to me, Asia was a bit too "poppy" to Trump (as it were) other prog bands like Yes. Asia wrote stuff that seemed aimed specifically at creating radio hits.
ReplyDeleteBut the Wilburys wrote just fun, cool, interesting songs that let their creativity flow differently than with their usual bands. I hope that Jeff Lynne unearths and releases a vast archive of unpublished Wilbury tracks.
Cherdo,
ReplyDeleteI had a lopsided showdown, as well but then that happens frequently. Have a good day. I can't believe it's November already, can you?
