BOTB Results: The Monkees Win! Shocker!

MPR News reported that "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones" by the Monkees was No. 1 on the Billboard album chart 51 years ago (as of January 2019). Good Lord, how can that be right? I wish that were fake news...where's that AARP card, I'm gonna need it?

Well, the good news is that they still can pull votes and this time, it was for the song "Words." Methinks it's a good thing that I didn't have to break a tie, 'cause I would have waivered between them. They're like my childhood buddies that I don't want to tick off by saying I liked one more than the other. You know, that could affect my seat at the lunch table in the cafeteria...and really, is anything worth that kinda trauma? Really?

The voting:

"Lookout, Here Comes Tomorrow":
Stephen, Mike (not Nesmith), Birgit

Arlee, Alex, aisasami, Mary, Cathy, Debbie D.

"What Am I Doing Hanging 'Round?":
Debra, John, Holli

To be perfectly honest, I'm glad we had this outcome. Peter Tork obviously wanted to be taken seriously for his part in this song, as evidenced by some of his dramatic tune-delivery faces:

I don't know about you, but I don't want to be responsible for disappointing the recently departed. {{{shudder}}}

You know the drill, peeps: to the victor! Sing us out, and no Monkeeing around this time!

Now, go check out the peeps and see how your vote stacked up against the others. I'll see you back here on the 15th!

  1. I can't believe I snoozed from this! I would have taken What Am I Doing Hanging 'Round?, so I didn't louse up the contest, but darn it, Chris!

  2. Hey, I picked the winner! You're right, we don't want to disappoint Peter.

  3. Great outcome since my song pick was a favorite. But seriously all the songs were excellent. The Monkees are a solid part of rock and roll history.

  4. I had a feeling he was taking it seriously from his faces scrunchies. he died too young in my opinion

  5. I have been in and out of comments and having problems with computer and comcast... Really like the Monkeys.

    cheers, parsnip

    >>... "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones"

Ha! LOVE the title. I need to go to YourTube and listen to this, cuz I don't know it off the top o' my head by the title. Maybe by the time it was #1, I had moved away from The Monkees and Batman, and was now exclusively in search of Julie Newmar.

Very good Battle! You have my permission to use Davy Jones again sometime in BOTB. (;-))

Oh, it's an album, not a song!

I have always loved 'Pleasant Valley Sunday'.

Just a hop, skip, and a jump North of Carson City (off of Old Hwy 395) is a place called 'Pleasant Valley'. And YOU KNOW what comes to my mind every single time I drive past the road sign indicating that I am approaching 'Pleasant Valley'. I always ask myself: "What day is this?"
