Battle of the Bands: Battlin' Fool Songs

This is the BATTLE OF THE BANDS, no fooling!

FAR AWAY EYES started this grand romp of a blogging event and it is currently hosted and promoted by brudder "I Ain't No Fool But I May Have Played One on TV" STEPHEN T. McCARTHY. The mighty Battle gets posted on the 1st and 15th of each month and results appear magically six days later, on the 7th and 21st. You get the honor of casting a vote in the comments below to tell me which tune is your favorite and why (if you want to elaborate). If it's absolutely necessary, I add my own humble vote to break a tie and announce the winner, but why sully the whole event?

I could try and trick ya (no...not me...well, okay, it IS me, but not today), but I thought it was time for a showdown of giants in the world of FOOL TUNES. Let's get it started with three groups you just MIGHT have heard of, shall we?

CONTENDER #1: THE ROLLING STONES
"Fool to Cry"

CONTENDER #2: THE WHO
"Won't Get Fooled Again"

CONTENDER #3: THE DOOBIE BROTHERS
"What a Fool Believes"

Well, there you have it. No jokes, no pranks, just super groups foolin' around...and creating mega hits. But which "fool" hit is the best? Who's to say? YOU ARE, MY FRIENDS. Vote below and then go to my other non-foolish friends' blogs to see their April 1st battles. Give 'em your two cents and tell 'em Cherdo sent ya!

See you back here on the 7th (no fooling).

  2. Interesting battle, Cheryl! I love both The Stones and The Who. (Doobies, not so much). Anyway, my vote goes to The Who. Roger's vocals are superior to Mick's and his energy blows me away! Plus, it's a better song, IMO. ♫ Meet the new boss, same as the old boss ♫ ☺

    1. The Stones and The Who are on equal footing with me. I tolerate the Doobie Brothers. :-)

  3. All great but I go with The Who-that song is the best of the 3 I think but closely followed by The Doobie Brothers. I didn't care for the song or Mick's voice

    Great April 1st BOTB theme!

I'm not normally much of a fan of The Rolling Stones. As it is also for me with The Beatles, I dig a small handful of songs, but don't consider myself a general fan. I do, however, like 'Fool To Cry' better'n I do the majority of Stones songs.

But when I saw who the other two contenders were, I knew instantly that, for me, the Battle was really between #2 and #3. And, to be honest, as much as I like The Doobie Brothers (overall, I greatly prefer them to The Who) and Michael McDonald's voice, 'Won't Get Fooled Again' is my #1 favorite Who song and, for me, this contest was already over before I even played the videos. (Although I did play them just to be all fair and up-and-up an' all.)

Vote: "Meet The New Boss. Same As The Old Boss".
(And, no, I definitely don't mean Bruce Springsteen!)

    1. Seriously, as I was pulling this post together, I thought to myself, "I'll bet STMcC is a fan of this song (Won't Get Fooled Again)..." It is one of the greats, for sure.

Be careful on your trip and enjoy yourself, brother.

  5. Hands down, The Who! Having seen them on their 25th anniversary tour, and again they still rocked it on their 50th anniversary tour, gotta cast my vote here for the Pete Townsend windmill & one of my all time favorite songs! Saw Michael McDonald recently & he put on a great show in a much smaller venue. Saw the Rolling Stones on their 25th anniversary tour & I have to say, I was rather disappointed by it. My vote, then, tainted by my experiences with the bands, is less about comparing their individual songs and more about overall impression. So The Who it is!

  8. As I was going through the contenders, I automatically ruled out the Stones (No offense to Mick and the boys, and I do hope that Mick gets through his heart surgery without any real issues). The real battle for me is between The Who and The Doobie Bros.

That being said... I'm voting for those Doobie Brothers!

  9. Cherdo,

I'm not a Stones fan so, I'm gonna elimiate them from the race straight off. The Who and The Dobbie Brothers I've always liked but which song do I like the best? Let me see...it has to be 'What A Fool Believes" not only because it's a great song but because I didn't know The Who's feature and there's nothing to connect me with it. ;)
