Leisure...that word could have it's own blog. All the ways I used to spend my leisure time and pack in the activities.
Awww, how I used to love the beach! Swim, search the shore for shells, run with kids! The sun goes down and night life starts. Dance till the place closes. Get up early to go out and do it all over.
Or maybe a vacation near something historical -- like Charleston, South Carolina, or anywhere along New England's coastline. Washington, D. C., would be the absolute best and they'd have to throw me out of the Smithsonian. I'd walk till my blisters had blisters and think that a bandaid was a fair trade for all the joy I'd get from a day full of discovery.
Can't go out of town? Let's plant a huge garden or get animals. At one time, I had 28 critters on my property (guard donkey, goats, chickens, silkies...a load of work and worth every minute).
- If your leisure time has morphed into a non-activity episode...
- If you have no need of "leisure planning" because you'd rather stay home...and you'll take it where you can get it...
Leisure time is when I stop doing things, my peeps. The older I get, the more apt I am to rest up AFTER a vacation! And boy, do I love a book...how about you? Where are you in the process?

Leisure? I think BOOM! Yep. Leisure blew poor Jimmy Michaels to bits.

Where I come from, we call this the "Youngstown Tune-Up."
DeleteWell, I'd say I'm a geezer on THIS one...
ReplyDeleteWe are in the same boat, Chris.
DeleteI'm still in the running around, doing things, phase. But I enjoy quiet time too. I try to keep a balance.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I have a many a busy week but I'm amazed at how much I do like just veggin' out. Never thought I'd be that person. But...I claim it!
DeleteLeisure is so precious! You use it well.
ReplyDeleteYes! Exactly!
DeleteI was never a beach person, but I used to love the mountains and going hiking and camping. Now, in my retirement, I barely leave home. Driving around L.A. is too much like work. It's a good life in geezerdom!

Tossing It Out
When we planned trips, we always thought of going near the ocean. You know where we live, Lee, so obviously we have a built in love of the mountains but you start to take that for granted a bit when it is so available.
DeleteNote I never said geezerdom is bad! I'm pretty fortunate at this stage of life and I don't miss that point.
What is leisure? I watch the baseball game while I'm crafting or coloring. That's about as leisure as I get.
ReplyDeleteJanet’s Smiles
Honey, I'm painting, teaching, creating new events, crafting like a maniac, and on the road waaaaay too much. But I love that leisure time so much and it doesn't have to be too planned out.
DeleteMy leisure time consists of taking a nap.
ReplyDeleteUntil I have to get up.
To go to bed.
The recliner is my enemy. If I sit in it, I lose consciousness.
DeleteConsidering I am sitting on my butt responding while the boob tube is on States what leisure time I am doing:). I recall going to work all day, coming home, the. Going out Friday night somewhere and dancing. Tuesday’s, after work, I would go to aqua fit with a friend and we would lol go out after that to the movies. Yeah...now I can’t wait to get home, put on my outfit, aka my Jammies, and see what’s on tv before going to read in bed.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha...I feel that, too! I've put limitations on myself with regard to when I can put jammies on, lest I start leisuring too soon. Lately, as my schedule has cleared up a bit, I'm staying in them too long.
DeleteLeisure for me is doing nothing much which is my life now
ReplyDeleteThen, life is good, Jo-Anne! Good for you.
DeleteI'm always up for a good adventure! But when you're over 60, you need some "down" time, too, which we seem to be doing more and more. That said, we're still night people and stay up late. ☺
ReplyDeleteI'm a night person, too. I stay up waaaay too late.
DeleteYou hit the name on the head, Debbie: I'm up for an adventure any day of the week but I do need to recharge in between.
By the way, you have some first rate adventures...I'm a tad jealous of your mileage. ;-)
Yes, the "recharging" time seems to get longer and longer. We have been fortunate in indulging the travel muse, but that too will tone down. Between ageing and rising costs, I see less such adventures in future. But, the memories made are priceless! ☺
DeleteLove this! <3
ReplyDeleteThis is from Deborah from awisewomansjourney that you came to visit thank you. These Google blogs never accept my name even I sign in with my gmail???
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...I wish I had an answer for that, but thanks for stopping by! I loved your blog. :-)
