Welcome to July 15th and The Battle of the Bands!
I've got babies on the brain, since we've had a new addition in the extended family and several good friend have added to their broods. True story: I'm a pushover where babies are concerned. Maybe I'm not the only one. You'll note that many a couple, knee deep in amore, refers to their sweetie as "baby" and it's usually accepted as a form of endearment...let's not get touchy about that, please, there's so little unoffensive things left. Leave me that and I won't call random strangers "honey."
First up, the closest thing Hubzam and I have to "our song." Second, a true classic...and third, a great hook and definite ear worm. And I like them all!
CONTENDER #1:
AMY GRANT
"Baby, Baby"
CONTENDER #2:
SMOKEY ROBINSON & THE MIRACLES
"Ooh, Baby Baby"
CONTENDER #3:
JUSTIN BIEBER ft. LUDICRIS
"Baby"
Time to Vote! Which one do you prefer? Any of these remind you of your baby? Have any of these big hits already gotten too much air time for you? Be honest...we're a picky music bunch...we like what we like, right? I thought so...
Don't forget to check out the peeps' blogs!

I'll see you back here are the 21st!
Justin Bieber kinda creeps me out. I know I should judge him on the music alone, but some of his behavior has been so awful that I can't vote for him. It's not as if I'm shortchanging him. He's not my favorite, anyway. So is it Amy or Smokey? Smokey or Amy? I've always loved Smokey's sound, but I'm voting for Amy because "Baby, Baby" makes me smile. It's perky and peppy. I read in a magazine long ago that she wanted to do the video surrounded by diapers (not used, I hope) and other baby paraphernalia, but she got stuck with a good lookin' dude instead. Poor Amy. I love her.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I love Amy, too! So perky and that video always makes me smile!
DeleteLike Janie I read that she wrote the song at the table looking at her Baby. Must admit the handsome man gets my vote.
Deleteparsnip
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles has my vote.
ReplyDeleteA classic! Thanks, Debra!
DeleteDOC MacSIS ~
ReplyDeleteThe job is killing me, and I'm not hanging in there day to day; I'm strictly hour-by-hour. And I may quit tomorrow in the first hour. But I still make it a point to visit my BOTB companions, no matter how stressed and pressed for time I am.
First, I want to say that: "BOTB is KAOS! We don't Justin Bieber here!!"
Secondly, speaking strictly for me (as always), this has to be SMOKEY & THE MIRACLES. (Move along, folks. There's nuttin' else to see here.)

STMcC Presents BATTLE OF THE BANDS
You are a better person than me! I'm struggling to visit the battles this time and my only job is cook, keep my foot in the air, and PT.
DeleteThanks, brudder!
So, two contenders and the beebs. 1991 vs 1969. I'm going to have to go with Amy. The sound in general just improved too much in those 22 years.
ReplyDeleteAmy just gets better and better, in my my opinion. Thanks, Mike!
DeleteSmokey Robinson might have written "Ooh, Baby Baby," but Linda Ronstadt did it better, IMHO. And, the Beeb? Forget him. I've always liked "Baby Baby": Amy Grant has an outstanding voice, and the video is cute. Wish she'd do some more pop, actually. Anyway, she gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteI like the Rhonstadt version best, too, but I'm trying to diversify it a little...guy, girl, kid...
DeleteThanks, John!
Amy Grant for me today. Love Smokey but for some reason the slowness just isn't getting it for me. Justin, catchy tune but I'm not feeling that either.
ReplyDeleteJanet’s Smiles
The Biebs doesn't get much clout here against those two. Thanks, Janet!
DeleteAmy is good. She's a lot of fun to listen to. But it's Smokey that gets me in the feels every time.
ReplyDelete~Mary
Because...he's Smokey!
DeleteThanks, Mary!
I go with Amy as I really enjoyed her singing and the 80s vibe. I was never a fan of Smokey and his voice. Don't get me started on Bieberhead. Thankfully, he seems to have grown up a bit now...keeping fingers crossed. The only babies I have are the furry kind:)
ReplyDeleteAwww...now I want to get you started on Bieberhead...I'll bet I can guess, issue by issue. Ha ha ha...thanks, Birgit!
DeleteSmokey all the way!
ReplyDeleteAmen! He's a goodie!
DeleteSince I'm here with 5 of my grandchildren, I'm around little ones of which I guess one qualifies as a baby.
ReplyDeleteOF these three songs I'm going to have to go with Amy Grant. I've always liked her song though Smoky is pretty good as well.
Lee
Amy is awesome!
DeleteThis falls in my "only battle songs you like" rule. I can only be pleased with any vote.
Thanks, Lee!
Easy for me. Smoky.
ReplyDeleteThat is an easy one...he's an icon. Thanks, Chris!
DeleteFour-legged babies are what we have, here. 🐶 Smokey Robinson is the only choice for me. 😁 Amy Grant has that typical 80s sound that doesn't go with my hippie vibe and Justin Bieber? Most of us Canadians have tried to disown him, yet, he's still around. 😉
ReplyDeleteHey...that reply below was for thou. :-)
DeleteThe poor Biebs...he can't get no love. It's a catchy tune, though.
ReplyDeleteWho can argue with a vote for Smokey?
Thanks, Debbie!
Smokie is my favorite musician in this group, but Amy Grant gets my vote
