BOTB Results: Who "Worked It" Best?

Friends, we definitely worked the rock and roll tributes to vocational was oh sooooo close, but I'm not a bit surprised that our winner!

Donna Summer: "She Works Hard for the Money"
Lee, Debra, Janet, Mirka, Birgit

Huey Lewis and the News: "Working for a Livin'"
Mike, John

***Dire Straits: "Money for Nothing"***
Mary, Alex, Stephen, Chris, Debbie, Mike

In my humble opinion, Dire Straits is more than than the "sultans of swing," they are rock and roll gods (little g gods, people...little g) and deserve any and all praise! And "Money for Nothing" has to be in their top three. In the age of MTV glory, this song surely was played to death, but I'm okay with it.

To the victors! Spin it one more time, boys:

If you haven't done so already, you know what comes next -- check out the peeps blogs!

See you on the first of the month for our next battle of the bands!

Battle of the Bands: Work It!!

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears! Seriously, Romans might wanna jump off, as this is an English language post. Mea culpa. But, bilingual buddies, have at it.

A big thanks to FAE (faraway eyes) for the original creative spark that started what would become the Battle of the Bands and to STEPHEN T. McCARTHY for hosting and keeping us on track. The Battle gets posted on the 1st and 15th of each month and results appear magically six days later, SOME TIME (God willing) on the 7th and 21st. You get the honor of casting a vote in the comments below to tell me which tune is your favorite and why. If it's absolutely necessary, I add my own incoherent vote to break any ties and announce the winner...and you get to see how your vote stacked up against the wonderful peeps of Internet land.

Nothing says America like working 9-5, 5 days a week, for about fifty years (give or take). And to stress that point further, we celebrate Labor Day. Ye Olde Oxford Dictionary elaborates and defines Labor Day, for the uninformed, as "a public holiday or day of festivities held in honor of working people, in the US and Canada on the first Monday in September, in many other countries on May 1."

Whoo-eee...FESTIVITIES! Is THAT something to sing about? Well, of course it is...'cause a significant number of us will not be at work.

And if you ARE at work, you're probably supporting the public that's not working by selling us important stuff (grills, charcoal...) or standing by, in case of need (police, doctors, nurses, tow trucks, grocery personnel to direct you to self-checkout...). So, thanks!

Enough babbling. Let's battle, peeps, with three of the most up tempo songs about work that I could find:

"She Works Hard for the Money"

"Working for a Living"

"Money for Nothing"

You know what's work? Tryin' to make a decision about which work tunes were worthy! Whew! Actually, there's quite a few goodies.

But voting for favorite? Aww, shucks! That's like a personal day...paid time off...a vacation! Insert your tax-free vote in the comments below and then skip on over (off the clock) to these brilliant blog bosses below and vote to your heart's content. It's a relatively, somewhat free-ish country...and it's Labor Day weekend!  God bless America!

Do you have a favorite work tune I missed? Let me know in the comments below...there might be a Labor Day next year, you never know.

(Everyone have a safe, fun, relaxing holiday. See ya back here are on the 7th.)
