Battle of the Bands: A "Heck" of a Tune

A big thanks to FAE (faraway eyes) for the original creative spark that started what would become the Battle of the Bands and to STEPHEN T. McCARTHY for hosting and keeping us on track. The Battle gets posted on the 1st and 15th of each month and results appear magically six days later, SOME TIME (God willing) on the 7th. Cast your vote in the comments below to tell me which tune is your favorite and why. If it's absolutely necessary, I add my own incoherent vote to break any ties and announce the winner...and you get to see how your vote stacked up against the wonderful peeps of the IoT.

It's been a heck of a summer...

First off, I had a surgery on my foot (end of May) that I thought would be a walk limp in the park. Nopety nope, I had a Frankenfoot caused me to question all medical decisions I have made or will make and multiple orthotics & PT visits to get over it.

When the healing was finally in full swing and things started to look up, my poor sweet dog, Coco, passed away, God rest her doggy-soul.

So, here we are. In dear old K-ville, it was a steamy 95 degrees today as I walked my recently acquired rescue dog, Daisy, over my crunchy, dry lawn. At least I think it is a lawn...it may have degraded into another form of matter.

It's the Fall, correct? Am I looking at the calendar wrong? I swear, I smell pumpkin spice something-or-other every day and I know that's a surefire sign. Pumpkins are everywhere. Halloween costumes and candy surround me in the pharmacy. And yet, my forearms were sunburned.

Perhaps this explains why two of the songs that keep making the rounds in my brain have the word "H E Double-toothpicks" in the title...

These two tunes are catchy, have great videos, and remind me of heat.

CONTENDER #1: BLAKE SHELTON
"Hell Right"

CONTENDER #2: THE DEAD SOUTH
"In Hell, I'll Be Good Company"

Let me go out on a limb and say I think these songs are pretty evenly matched. They also remind me that no matter how catchy this tune is, I do not, in fact, what to give myself over to the HECK side. I'm not changing teams, just in case you wondered. :-)

But it's not all about MOI, I need to hear from my peeps! Give me your vote for your favorite and tell me what made one better than the other for your sophisticated ear-holes.

Then...you know the drill! Visit these other fine bloggers and vote!

We all appreciate your participation. Invite a friend to participate; it's a HECK of a good time. See you back here on the 7th to tally up the votes.

  1. That was a hell of a decision. Dead South does a darn good job on their song, but right now I'm leaning toward Blake Shelton with my vote. I must be in a partying mood.

It's fallen into the 70's where I am, but I see where you've got 90's predicted for the whole week. A friend of mine in Maryville said he's been keeping track and it was a long string of days that had been over 90. I think he said something like 88 days as of Saturday so now I guess it's more.

    1. When you left East TN, you took all the "cool..."

Sadly, I might now be able to choose one of these songs over the other! I'm diggin' them both.

  2. Very sorry about your foot and your dog. Pets are like family.
We're around ninety degrees here. What the heck, autumn?

    1. Thank you, Alex...but you didn't vote, brudder! Lol.

      It's ridiculous for October.

  3. Sounds like you had a rough summer! We dipped down into the low 30's this past week for our overnight lows. I so miss the mild climate in Portland. That white four letter word is trying to make an appearance and it's much too early in the season for that!

I'm voting for the Dead South. I've always loved that song.

    1. I walked the doggle (yes, I meant doggle) and it was still sticky hot out. Yuck. I'd even take a smidge of snow.

  4. I must vote for The Dead South! Not only is it the best song, it's a kick-ass video too. Plus they are a Canadian band from Regina, Saskatchewan -- woo hoo, yeah!

  5. Cherdo,

Oh my, sorry to hear about your foot and your sweet pup's passing! I like Blake Shelton. He's really grown on me since connecting with The Voice in recent years. I think I've gotta give my vote to In H-E-double toothpicks, I'll Be Good Company but like you, I ain't gonna switch teams because you know what, I'll be good company in heaven, too. That being said, if you're on the wrong side of that lake of fire then you might wanna change mind before it's too late. ;) Now, let's pray that this 90+ΒΊ temp strike comes to an end soon coz I'm so over it!

Come vote in the I (Who Have Nothing) BoTB showdown!

  6. My sympathies, Cherdo! ♥ Losing a dog is always devastating and having to deal with foot issues at the same time must have been difficult. I'm glad you have Daisy now, to help heal your broken heart. BTW, it's 88 feeling like 102 here (Toronto), and, we're under a severe thunderstorm watch. Crazy weather for Oct. 1!

As for the battle, country is not my favourite genre but I do like Blake Shelton's voice (and Trace Adkins' as well). The Dead South song was more catchy and toe-tapping, so they get my vote.

  7. Dead South has my vote. There's too much talking in the other one.

Losing a doggy is really tough.

  8. DOC CHERDO ~

Gee, why does that first song sound so familiar to me?

I think a good friend may have shared it with me recently.
    *Helck right!*

    {"Helck" is my own invention - a compromise between "hell" and "heck". Can I get an "Amen"?! ...Helck right!!}

Well, as much as I'd like to vote for "Hank Junior" {Helck right!} - and I think you know what I mean by that - Mark Twain once said: "Heaven for climate, hell for society", and sometimes I wonder if he may not have been helck right.

My bote goes to Mark Twain-- er... I mean, "In Helck, I'll Be Good Company".

  9. Sorry about your foot and your doggie. We just recently (May) got a rescue too. Keeping me busy for sure. My vote is for Blake Shelton. I thought it was a catchier tune. Nice battle.

  10. Here, I really liked "In Hell I'll Be In Good Company," and the instrumentation was excellent (I've never seen anyone play the cello like that). And, the video was a riot. Blake Shelton did a great job on "Hell Right," which was a good song in its own right, but not good enough to change my vote. The Dead South gets my vote.

  15. both were good even though I am not a country fan. I have to go with Deep South because I liked the banjo and the uniqueness of the song. I hope you are healing well and so sad to hear about your doggie. It is always tough to lose a fur babe.
