BOTB and the Fabulous Results

Welcome to the delayed count, not to blame the Postal System (ya'll are still good and a BARGAIN in my book, but I'll be voting in person...wait, what in the world am I talking about? This has nothing to do with the BOTB results).

Busy week - better late, than never, peeps!

First and foremost, thank you for your response to the question: "Are we definitively accomplishing what we set out to do?" I don't have to agree with anyone, but I do like people who have solid opinions and are not afraid. That wins points in my book. If you are fearless and kind, bam - you're my peeps. And I think you are just that. Danke schoen...I forgot how to make an umlaut, but it's there in spirit.

My opinion, in a nutshell: we've lost our way. I think it's sad and I pray it turns around.

As for our winner?

THE FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS!! I'm not really surprised but I do confess that I was impressed with the covers. To the victor! Sing us out!

Now check out these other fine folks - they're the best and I'm just a pitiful tag-a-long. Love to you all!

Battle of the Bands: Ain't That Tough Enough

I'm jumping right into this battle with a big question on my mind...we're wearing masks, keepin' to ourselves, e-chatting and video-scatting through the week. Are we definitively accomplishing what we set out to do? I'm starting to wonder.

That's kind of a fib...I've always wondered. Your thoughts? Gather them together, 'cause that's the question of the week.

Also, as a veteran of this wonderful BATTLE OF THE BANDS  journey, I've been noticing that sometimes, a song -- not a musician -- stands alone. In other words, if you're a reasonable decent musician, you are gonna rock it. Maybe it's the bass line or a great hook, but that song will hold up, no matter the delivery.

The Fabulous Thunderbirds made it famous, but the song is a rocking masterpiece. Who does it best? Can a famous modern day rocker or a bar band do it justice, too? You decide...that's the challenge. And I have to ask:

"AIN'T THAT TOUGH ENOUGH?"

CONTENDER #1:
THE FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS

CONTENDER #2:
THE FOO FIGHTERS featuring JIMMY VAUGHN

CONTENDER #3: RETRO DELUXE

Vote in the comments and give me your take on the question of the day. Then drop by my good friends' blogs using the links below. We all appreciate it...and we ARE a tough crowd. We're vetted and crowned "tough enough." Amen.

As always, a big thank you (and big prayers folks...keep 'em coming for sweet FAE) to FAE (faraway eyes) for the original creative spark that started what would become the Battle of the Bands and to STEPHEN T. "Dats my Brudder-from-anudder-mudder fo' so' " McCARTHY for hosting and keeping us on track. My personal Battle gets posted on the 1st of each month and results appear magically on the seventh, God willing. Several of the battling buddies post on the 15th also, so make sure you visit and vote.

BOTB Results: "Me, me, pick me!"

Honestly, I'm surprised! Though I loved both of these versions of "Me!" In my mind, that dark corner of the music lovers' world, I thought this particular match up would be much, much closer. It's nice to be surprised every now and then, eh?

So, Peter - to the victor! Play us out, young maestro. Hit it, magic fingers!

As for our last three words, my cold cardiac muscles were warmed by the number of versions that addressed our place in the next world. I call "saved seats!" to meet up with you all there, in person. Or spirit. Or whatever form we might assume at that time.

My last three words? "Come, Lord Jesus."

But, till that day comes, you still have some stuff to take care of...namely, my peeps' blog battle tallies. How did your vote stack up to the rest? Did you find a new fav? Don't dally...run over to these blogs right this minute:

While you're at it, send a big ole' birthday wish to our fearless leader in  the battlin' blogosphere, the one and only Stephen T. McCarthy, who will be celebrating tomorrow.

He's worth far more than we pay him for the honor, don't you think?

Happy birthday, dear brudder-from-another-mother.

Love & Hugs till next time, peeps! See you on September 1!

Battle of the Bands: Me!

Something a little different this month!

I usually don't follow Taylor Swift's stuff, though I occasionally hear a catchy pop tune attributed to her and get it stuck in my head ("Safe and Sound" is a good example of that...Ahhhh! Now it's stuck in my head again! Drats!).

This foray started with a friend sending me a cover of the song, "ME!" (linked here) by TS. I'm not saying which one blew me away, but it did make me want to include it in a soft and lovely battle, like NOW!

"ME!" is an interesting title. Self-absorbed, maybe? Or perhaps just putting it out there for the universe to make sure it's clearly understood what "me" is about? An excuse to pull another musician into your video once more? Who knows? Who cares, really.

CONTENDER #1: PETER GERGELY

CONTENDER #2:

LANDON AUSTIN & MADDY NEWTON

THE QUESTION OF THE MONTH:

The set up:
You're on a desert island, taking your last breath,
chalk in hand...staring at the cave-home wall. You're not
going to have a Tom-Hanks-Castaway ending.

What three words (or less) would you write on
the wall that explained who YOU were
or passed on your most important message?

Now, it's your turn! Vote for your favorite tune, answer the question of the month, and pretty please with sugar on top: visit my peeps.

I'll be back on August 7th; till then - keep the faith, be smart, and have a heart.

As always, a big thank you (and big prayers) to FAE (faraway eyes) for the original creative spark that started what would become the Battle of the Bands and to STEPHEN T. "Keeping the Faith" McCARTHY for hosting and keeping us on track. My personal Battle gets posted on the 1st of each month and results appear magically on the seventh, God willing. Several of the battling buddies post on the 15th also, so make sure you visit and vote.

Big love to you, people!

BOTB Results...and the Wildest, Worldliest is...

A shout out to Ed O'Neill, Youngstown's finest. We've made him a local legend and this fine meme just adds to his glory, in spite of the fact he had nothing to do with it's creation.

I thought I'd heard everything, then I saw the banning of singing in church. Wow. Didn't see that one coming. And I'm pretty sure it is inspiring more people to sing in church.

Then Kanye West said he was running for President under his Birthday Party. And friends, Kanye might NOT be the worst choice.
Huntington's Disease Youth Organization - Teens - Ask a Question
As for the question posed: If you could fix one problem in the world, just one - what would it beThere were no duds in the answers, all of them had merit, but I do like Birgit's request to rid the world of stupidity. When you think about it, that would cover so much! Regardless of your specific spirituality or beliefs, if there is a God (there is, spoiler...not that I'm opinionated), then He has this in his sights. It still would help to decrease stupidity.

If you don't believe in God, well stupidity just makes it harder, eh?

So, what about them there battles, Cherdo? Well, the only way to answer that question is with a highly technical process. Step back and don't touch anything while I pull this one off...literally.

Mr. Big, you win! It was the hair that made you love them, tell the truth...it's always the hair. Now, you know the drill, so TO THE VICTORS!!  Let's see a live version from their 1996 Japan tour!

Check out these other battles and see their outcomes -- how did YOU do? I'll see you (God willing) on August 1st...who knows what might happen by then. Take care and be blessed, peeps.

Battle of the Bands: Wild World

July is here! Maybe you think I said that like I wasn't sure July would get here. Well...you're paying attention, 'cause up is down, high is low, and it's hard to call the shots this year. How can I explain it...

Truth be told, I was actually looking forward to the long-awaited murder hornets of urban legend. And what did I get? Nada. Next thing you know, people are saying there's no such thing as the Jersey Devil, Big Foot, Hook Man, Loch Ness monsters... Dang, you can't trust urban legends?

Maybe I'll watch the news to get some real truth. Media is your friend, nurturing trust at every turn.

Or maybe not. Lately, I'm lumping murder hornets, urban legend, and network news together as equally accurate. Seriously, you'd think a little bit of logical thought would weed out the flakiest of controversy from the logical, rational thought processes and observations of your run-of-the-mill SANE human. It seems to take the slightest bit of plausibility on the end of the hook to get somebody to bite. And then, having swallowed that bite whole, they move on to actually regurgitating and discussing. Oh, Lord, save me from online debates.

This is your part, peeps!

1) My question this month is this: If you could fix one problem in the world, just one - what would it be? Include your thought with your comment below.

2) It's time for the Battle of the Bands, where all your votes are never mailed in and you don't have to stand in a hot, sweaty line, either!

The good news is that the world hasn't actually burst into flame (in most areas) yet, but baby...it's a wild world. In light of that, let's see who can pull off a cover of WILD WORLD by Cat Stevens. The original is linked HERE, in case you want to refresh your memory.

CONTENDER #1:
MR. BIG

CONTENDER #2:
RETT MADISON

CONTENDER #3:
MAXI PRIEST

Now, it's your turn! Vote for your favorite tune, answer the question of the month, and pretty please with sugar on top: visit my peeps.

I'll be back on July 7th; till then - be careful. It really IS a wild, wild world. Cat was on to something.

As always, a big thank you (and big prayers) to FAE (faraway eyes) for the original creative spark that started what would become the Battle of the Bands and to STEPHEN T. BOTB: Who's the Bestest Cry Baby?

Cee Lo Green – Atlanta hardman or pop dandy? | The Times

Sorry for the delay, but I've been pretty mobile lately and a gal does what she can when she can. Thank you for all the comments on my question about what brings you to tears. I see that we all are human, did I get that right?

Meanwhile, my loyal listening peeps (love you!) chimed in on the tunefest and the votes went a little like this:

CEE LO GREEN:
Stephen
Arlee
Alex
Cathy
Mary B
Diedre
John
aisasami

JANIS JOPLIN:
Debra
Mike007 x 21
Mike#2
Mirka
Birgit

JOHNNY DEPP:
Kim
Chris

To the victor, Cee Lo Green, unless you count the 20 extra Chicago-soaked votes that Mike 007 procured. I hate to say it, Mike, but... HERE'S CEE LO!  The other video was super fun, but let's allow Cee Lo to handle this victory lap by himself.

Meanwhile...the world remains crazy; I've heard it suggested that we:
1. Give 2020 a Snickers bar.
2. Skip 2020 all together.
3. Spend more time with the family...complete with a picture of Jack Nicholson in "The Shining".
4. Buy toilet paper to stock up for the Fall.
5. Get your own cave away from society.
All great starts! Stay sane, stay well, and remember that GOD'S GOT THIS COVERED.

Battle of the Bands: Cry Baby

Let me make this bold assertion: everybody, at one time or another in their life, has felt the need to have a good cry. It's cathartic. Aside from the obvious reasons (death of friend or family), what was it that pushed YOU to the brink of tears...and beyond? That's the question today.

Over the years, I realize that each time I was overwrought and became a human water fountain, the flashpoint was always frustration. Frustration comes in so many forms.

Think about it: even the face of death is rooted in frustration because there's nothing you can do and no way to turn back the clock. Tears over some guy you dated? The frustration that it couldn't be a different outcome or frustration with yourself for choosing him in the first place. Kids' antics or problems? So frustrating that your parent-driven life lessons didn't prevent them from "steppin' in it." Frustration over burnt supper...why didn't I follow the recipe? Then there is a judgemental sort of frustration I fall into sometimes when I see a person struggling and I think, "Why are you crying about THAT? It's not even what I'd call a problem!" I'm getting frustrated when my own iron-clad opinions get in the way of true empathy.

Birds in a Basket  Daisy's Toys

My only solution is to shake it off and move forward (it might take time), mindful of the fact that sometimes life stinks beyond reason, but there's always something good out there. It's up ahead, around the corner, might be small or huge. But just as sure as you'll be frustrated from time to time, you'll also be able to see that God tucks some good in the most unlikely of places. Like birds in a flower basket or my pups joy at finding a favorite toy that was lost. Flowers "showing off" in the yard. Freshly baked bread. Beautiful cloud formations.

I love ONE of these tunes so much and the covers were disappointing OR absent, so I thought we'd just team up a variety of songs called "Cry Baby."

CONTENDER #1: JANIS JOPLIN
"CRY BABY"

CONTENDER #2: CEE LO GREEN
"CRY BABY"

CONTENDER #3: JOHNNY DEPP
"KING CRY BABY"

I'm trying a new Battle of the Band format of 1) Question for comment, 2) Cherdo's thoughts and ramblings on the subject, and 3) Songs for voting to accompany that thought process (not necessarily insightful!).

Now, it's your turn! Vote and visit my peeps. Fair warning, I'm hitting the road today with Hubzam as we celebrate our anniversary and I'll get to voting before the final count.

As always, a big thank you to FAE (faraway eyes) for the original creative spark that started what would become the Battle of the Bands and to STEPHEN T. "Brudder!" McCARTHY for hosting and keeping us on track. My personal Battle gets posted on the 1st of each month and results appear magically on the seventh, God willing. Several of the battling buddies post on the 15th also, so make sure you visit and vote. Big love to you! Cherdo

BOTB Results: Changes

Friends, Romans, countrymen...the results are
in for the May Battle! The crowd has spoken:

Do you want changes?
YES!!

Are you tired of the status quo?
YES!!

Do you want a theme song?
OH, LORD, WE DO NEED A THEME SONG!!

Our loyal following chimed in and the votes went a little like this:

BOWIE:
aisasami
Mary B.
Chris M.
Mike #1
Debra
Debbie D.
Janet
John H.
Alex
Mike #2 (who's still #1 in my book...uh, this might get confusing)

DYLAN:
Stephen
Arlee

ZIGGY:
(Ziggy got zippy)

So, to recap...we all want changes, we are tired of the status quo, but on the Flipside...when you think of changes, you are caught in the gravitational pull of the one and only David Bowie. Sing us out, dear departed Dave! You are the official theme songs of Flipsters Lovingly Aligned in Wailing Songs (FLAWS).

As ever and always, to the victor!

Now, check out those other battles and I'll see you back here on June 1st.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms who blog, men who have moms, women and men who miss their moms, boys who made girls into moms, moms of girls and boys, dads and moms of moms, and I'm talking to people of every shape color and size. Happy Mother's Day, friends!

Battle of the Bands: Are You Ready for a Change?

As always, a big thank you to FAE (faraway eyes) for the original creative spark that started what would become the Battle of the Bands and to STEPHEN T. "Brudder!" McCARTHY for hosting and keeping us on track. My personal Battle gets posted on the 1st of each month and results appear magically on the seventh, God willing. Several of the battling buddies post on the 15th also, so make sure you visit and vote, with or without a mask, political affiliation be derned. We're all human beanz.

Well, here we are again...thirty days older and maybe, just maybe, thirty days wiser. But it's hard to tell, really. Since last we battled our tunes, there's been a great thrust of info flung our way and it's debatable as to it's value.

That's a lie, in this case, because I'm not here to debate. I'm here to ask one question: "Are you ready for a CHANGE?"

Any change of your choice! I don't know anyone who hasn't had a few days where they questioned something...or everything...that is going on in the world today. What changes need to happen? Better information, less information, more truth, less flotsam & jetsam, more medicine, less opinion, more freedom, less virus, more dining out, less frozen dinners, more friends getting together, less lonely shut-ins, more solid faith and belief, less smorgasbords of lukewarm flights of thought, less politics, more leadership, less big gov, more small business, less arguing, more hugging? Yeah, I am ready for a change. I'll bet you are, too.

Let's do whatever we can to get outta the rut, get back on track, put the cart before the horse, get a breath of fresh air, make a clean sweep, shake things up, or any of your favorite idioms (insert them here)! The only question that remain unanswered "what shall be our theme song?" Hey, I know how you all are wired -- there has to be music in the mix.

Which band will come out on top in the battle to provide our background notes? It's up to you, peeps to choose.

CONTENDER # 1:
"CHANGES"
DAVID BOWIE

CONTENDER # 2:
"THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN'"
BOB DYLAN

CONTENDER # 3:
"CHANGES"
ZIGGY MARLEY

Don't waste another minute! Vote in the comments and as soon as possible -- do your best to make positive change happen.

And tell me what YOU want that change to look like. I truly want to know. 'Cause something's gotta give.
