Battle of the Bands: April Fool's Day? For Whom? Musical or Medical?

As always, a big thank you to FAE (faraway eyes) for the original creative spark that started what would become the Battle of the Bands and to STEPHEN T. "Brudder!" McCARTHY for hosting and keeping us on track. My personal Battle gets posted on the 1st of each month and results appear magically on the seventh, God willing. Several of the battling buddies post on the 15th also, so make sure you visit and vote, no more than ten times each or so. You know...legal.

First of all, let's review the current challenge between dear, ole' Stephen T. McCarthy (my brudder) and I...that we do a FOOLISH blog theme!

Immediately, a theme came to mind. This particular foolishness knows no boundaries. It's shared by one and all, no matter your belief or faith in the powers that be or confidence in the world of medicine.

You guessed it: I'm talking about the quarantine.

Just to be clear, I think that it's a good idea to stay close to home and try and keep this new bug at bay -- ESPECIALLY for all the folks who might not weather it well. Truth be told, I would be in that "watch yerself, don't do nuttin' foolish" group.

Well played, if it keeps us healthy, folks. There are legitimately some terrible outcomes of this virus, like deaths in all age groups! Careful, thoughtful, level-headed decisions are not what I'm talking about here.

But, people...there's a goldmine of foolishness out there.

Like what, Cherdo?

How about bad data, "no data" presented as data, outright lies and statistical high-jinks, bad medical "guesses" presented as good advice, purely Googled advice, crowd based medical-freelancing, pandemic pandemonium, political nonsense, bill padding, quarantine mocking, toilet paper hoarding, media malarkey, too soon, too late, trust no one...trust fate...I'm gonna need my own neck doctor from shaking my head so much. From purposeful coughing on produce, CoVid 19 parties, to fighting over paper towels...humans really know how to show their hiney, folks. And this is occurring at all levels of income, all religions, all political parties, all ethnicity...it's the equal opportunity kind of foolishness that many partake of.

The good news is that it makes me really WANT to stay home. Quarantine? Nay...Quarantastic!

So, for this FOOLISH theme, I ask you to put all the madcap foolishness aside and pick the tune that feels like the best theme song for your particular quarantine experience (OR your favorite).

CONTENDER #1:
DON'T COME AROUND HERE NO MORE
TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS

CONTENDER #2: STAYIN' ALIVE
THE BEE GEES

CONTENDER #3:  I WANT A NEW DRUG
HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS

By the way, in case you are wondering, my family is doing fine, thank you. We are healthy thus far, thank the Lord, and working from home. I hope that you and yours are doing just as well and will continue to avoid any of the pitfalls of this crazy season of viruses and economic helter skelter.

But, do you know what time it is? VOTING TIME! So, wipe down that keyboard and tap tap tap your little hearts out as you tell me your choice. Then visit all my blog buddies (from a safe distance) to see what they are up to this April Fool's Day.

Everybody: stay well, wash those hands, and meet me back here on April 7th. No foolin'.

I happened to catch part of a religion show where they were saying how bad this drug song was. I hollered at the TV that it was an anti drug song but I don't think they heard me.

    1. You can't get the TV to listen to you, man. It's just too darn stubborn and it doesn't like the truth.

Did you catch the news about our man Huey having to curb his career? Very sad.

      Thanks, Mike!

  2. There is plenty of weird going on for sure, but I guess there always is except now it's in hyper-weird zone.

I like all of these songs and they all make for some good commentary.

My favorite song of these is the Petty tune with "Stayin' Alive" almost neck-and-neck. From the perspective of commentary I am definitely working on "Stayin' Alive" but with a healthy dose of wanting a new drug. I've had a toothache problem that I've suffered through for over a week and I was trying every prescription in my med cabinet that seemed like it might help--that and a full bottle of brandy over the span of several days. I'll tell you I was in pain! This morning I spent 5 hours in the dentist chair having 3 teeth worked on. Still hurts from the dental work, but by tomorrow I think it will be gone. But still "I Want a New Drug"!

    And with all that said...

I'm casting my vote for "Stayin' Alive" to win this Battle (both your Battle and the pandemic).

    1. Ugh! I hate that you're having the problem with a tooth! That can way on your brain besides the obvious discomfort. I hope that gets resolved soon.

All this coronavirus stuff has me digging in on projects. As time goes on I spend less and less time with screens of any kind.

      Staying alive? I'm in!

I was in the fourth row at a Bee gees concert when they were doing their "One" tour. It was one of my favorite, favorite concerts.

      Thanks,

  4. Howdy, DOC MacSIS ~

You went in a clever direction with this "Fool / Foolish" theme. I never even considered utilizing the coronavirus malarky in my Battle.

Interestingly, 98 out of a 100 times, if you put a Tom Petty song up against a Bee Gees song or a Huey Lewis song, I would vote for Tom Petty. I've always been a big fan of his music and today I own 8 compact discs of his tunes. I own 0 Bee Gees and Huey Lewis compact discs.

Oddly, however, you happened to choose one of Tom's songs that I've never really cared much for. For whatever reason (I really can't 'splain it), some of Tom's most popular songs - like 'Don't Come Around Here No More', 'The Waiting', and 'Free Fallin'' - have never been favorites of mine.

So, this match-up is one of those 2 out of 100 times when Tom Petty wouldn't get my vote. I do like Huey's song 'I WANT A NEW DRUG', though, so that's where my BOTB bote lands in this contest.

Thanks for the BOTB theme suggestion you made. I think it turned out well for both of us. You dun goot, MacSis!

    1. Tom Petty has been a favorite of mine for a long, long time. I literally wore out the album Damn the Torpedoes. It was my favorite. like you, I find it I shy away from a lot of the big hits. One exception though would be Last dDnce with Mary Jane. I love that song.

There was a great Tom Petty documentary on Netflix, I'll have to seek that out and tell you the title. It was really good but poor Tom looked a little ragged and showed his age.

the themes are great! I like the challenge of fitting into that box. I think this one came out pretty good and I loved your take on it, too.

      Thanks, brudder!

  5. Good battle, Cherdo!

For me, it's a tossup between Petty and Huey. Unlike Stephen, I happen to like this particular Petty song. In fact, I've listened to it a few times in the past few weeks.

But Huey is a big ol dose of nostalgia for me. And for that reason alone, I'm casting my vote for Huey Lewis & The News. I got a new drug just yesterday. Thankfully, it doesn't make me feel three feet thick.

    1. Huey Lewis and the News is one of those bands that seem to do everything right. I'm not aware of any big scandal, they were musically tight, and Huey Lewis always seemed like he was a good guy. I like to root for the good guys!

I hope you're doing well, Merry! Thanks!

  6. There is so much false information out there and often they give worst-case scenarios as what will really happen.
Not a big fan of any of them, but I'll go with Tom Petty. It's a wacky video.

    1. There is a lot of bad information out there. Usually, I'm a bit of a news junkie but it seems like there's no real news out there. I'm really sick of it.

I kind of dig the Alice in Wonderland theme of this video. Made it kind of interesting. Thanks, Alex!

  7. Aw, everything you said, Cherdo. And Alex, too. I do not like this "Divide and Conquer" scenario, much less the constant doomsday rhetoric. I'm glad there's a God to talk to, and I thank him for music that soothes with sounds of feelings.
All good songs, my dear, but I'm voting for Tom Petty. He seems to speak my mind today.

  9. Cherdo,

There is a lot of foolishness goin' on for sure. It blows my mind at people's stupidity. There's is no fixing it, either. If people won't use that gray mass between their ears then the world is doomed! The thing that gets me is how people continue to be laxed in public. They do not cover sneezes/coughs and others march straight into the germ packed mist.It would be easy to walk around it but that requires at the very least some good old common sense but since most don't have any brains, at least we don't have to worry about a Zombie apocalypse, they forge right through it. Another thing is these same people are super keen on wanting to grind their bodies all over yours. Hey buddy, what about the stay at least 6-feet apart notice posted throughout every store you walk in these days? I'd like to say, unless I invite you to brush against I recommend me you not doin' it! Okay, I'm gonna stop ranting or I'll work up my blood pressure and I don't have issues but why take a chance, right? Now on to your battle. I love how you and Stephen coordinated on your themes. As it turned out, I was thinking the same thing. Great minds or coincidence? Yeah, great minds! Anywho, I'm going with HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS "I Want A New Drug", not because we need a new drug, we do one for the virus an one to fix stupid, but because I love the energy of the song and it got me chair boogieing. :)

All is well here. DH is on week two working from home. We mainly hang around here except for trips to the store. Why bother to go if you can't get toilet paper or paper towels anyhow? Those shelves are still rather bear.

Whenever you get a chance do stop by to vote in my April 1st BoTB showdown that's rolled in with Cathy's Pinup Girl A to Z Challenge Art Sketch Series. Have a blessed and joyful day while safe at home, good friend and neighbor! ;)

    1. through a strange sequence of events, I was very well stocked with paper products before this all started.

I'm with you when it comes to these crazy people who have to get right in your face when you're out and about. Do they not watch the news? Do they not have a newspaper? It's crazy. If it keeps going like this, of course, we can't help but be covered up with this virus. Oh well...people can be ridiculous.

      Stay well, my friend! Thanks!

  10. People do really show their stupid side but also their great side which we need to hear more about. People are so dumb that, in Toronto, they took the barriers away that the police put there so they could walk and enjoy the park when they were told not to. People climbed the gates to play soccer etc...There was quite the congestion this past Sunday with people walking. Toilet Paper is still scarce but what kills me is that they bought up all the flour! Most people don't even know how to make up an egg never mind bread and it is just the flour, the sugar, baking powder etc.. is still there. I am voting for Huey Lewis because I always liked that song much more than the other 2

    1. There was some fella in town who told the kids to go ahead with their baseball tournament. Really? Not only are you stupid, but you're going to be stupid with someone else's kids. Hopefully, the parents stepped up and prevented that from happening. You can't be too careful when it comes to the little guys.

I hope you all are well and stay well. Thanks!
