Battle of the Bands: Me!

Something a little different this month!

I usually don't follow Taylor Swift's stuff, though I occasionally hear a catchy pop tune attributed to her and get it stuck in my head ("Safe and Sound" is a good example of that...Ahhhh! Now it's stuck in my head again! Drats!).

This foray started with a friend sending me a cover of the song, "ME!" (linked here) by TS. I'm not saying which one blew me away, but it did make me want to include it in a soft and lovely battle, like NOW!

"ME!" is an interesting title. Self-absorbed, maybe? Or perhaps just putting it out there for the universe to make sure it's clearly understood what "me" is about? An excuse to pull another musician into your video once more? Who knows? Who cares, really.

The set up:
You're on a desert island, taking your last breath,
chalk in hand...staring at the cave-home wall. You're not
going to have a Tom-Hanks-Castaway ending.

What three words (or less) would you write on
the wall that explained who YOU were
or passed on your most important message?

Now, it's your turn! Vote for your favorite tune, answer the question of the month, and pretty please with sugar on top: visit my peeps.

I'll be back on August 7th; till then - keep the faith, be smart, and have a heart.

As always, a big thank you (and big prayers) to FAE (faraway eyes) for the original creative spark that started what would become the Battle of the Bands and to STEPHEN T. "Keeping the Faith" McCARTHY for hosting and keeping us on track. My personal Battle gets posted on the 1st of each month and results appear magically on the seventh, God willing. Several of the battling buddies post on the 15th also, so make sure you visit and vote.

Big love to you, people!

  1. I don't keep up with Swift's music and never heard this song. The duet was nice, but basically like something one might hear on one of the singing TV talent shows. Since lately I've picked up my guitar from out of my closet to begin trying to play, I'm more appreciative of hearing guitarists. This guy is enough to make me give up again (I can't play worth a darn) while at the same time providing inspiration. I like the way he interpreted the song.

My vote goes to Peter Gurgley (or whatever).

AS to the wall statement in 3 words? Kind of like a grave headstone inscription I'd say "In God's Hands".

    1. Gergely is pretty amazing. I have a dear pal who sends me interesting videos and we had to forward it to my son, Juggernaut, to figure out the tuning. Tricky!

      Thanks, Lee!

  2. I'm voting for Peter Gergely as well. I liked it as an instrumental.
My wall statement - With Father now.

    1. With Father Still! Thanks for the vote, Alex!

  3. I liked LANDON AUSTIN & MADDY NEWTON better than TS and whoever the other guy was. I think these two have better harmony together. That said, I really liked the guitar solo. So I'm going with PETER GERGELY by a nose.

    Wall words? 'Try CPR!'

    1. I love it. I'm one of those who always loved the boy band era, too...heck, I loved the Andrews Sisters...barbershop...

      Thanks, Mike!

  4. Cherdo,

I'm giving my vote to Peter Gurgley.

My statement would read... "Gone to heaven!" Being who I am, I'd probably include a P.S. that reads, "Hope to see you soon!!"

I don't have a battle today but I'll be ready to play on the 15th. Have a good weekend, my dear!

    1. I love ya, battle or no. And I do hope to see you there. Thanks, Cathy!

  5. Maddie and Landon's performance was excellent. She has a beautiful voice and is quite attractive, and he works well with her and their voices blended almost perfectly. Were it not for the fact that you put them up against a fingerstyle guitarist of the caliber of Peter Gergely, they would get my vote. Unfortunately for them, they were up against Peter Gergely, who gets my vote.

As for your question, in the grand tradition of Bill Holman, who gave us the cartoon "Smokey Stover," I would write NOTARY SOJAC...

    1. And a nodlaig sodhach to you, too, buddy. Thanks!

  6. Well, this battle is tough. In the first place, this song sounds a lot like me (no pun intended), and Landon and Maddy do a decent job covering it. But I do love instrumentals, so I'm thinking Peter Gergely is getting my vote.

As for the question of the month, the only three words I can think of that I would write on the wall would be "love my sons."

    1. Ooo, I love my sons, too...I have three!

Covers are difficult at times, especially when a song has a lot of airplay (it's on a commercial for something or other, too).

      Thanks, Kim!

Well, honestly, I'm not sure there even really IS a Taylor Swift. I know she's a product (kind of like plastic hangers), and she's probably also a product of A.I. (Or artificial something, anyway.)

PETER GERGELY - Dang! That guy can seriously play the guitar! Exceptional work for such a young dude. (He's probably some great Classical musician reincarnated for our Biblical End-Times era.)

Landon & Maddy - well, Mama told me, "If you can't say sumpin' nice... don't say nuttin' at all." So, my lips are ceeuld.

As for 'The Q O' The Month'...

    "Thank you, Jesus!"

    ~ D-FensDogG

    1. All Biblical end-time musical greats should be stepping forward so we can enjoy them for a few last times before THE BIG DAY, right? Send out the word, far and wide...or not, they probably already know.

Thank you, Jesus, indeed. For so much!

  8. I love the first one which is purely instrumental. Peter gets my vote even though the gal has a nice voice but that song....Taylor really needs to get some self confidence...hahahaa. As for 3 words...Sick of Seafood

    1. Oh, girl...finally somewhere where we disagree. There's never enough seafood. When vacationing near the ocean, I eat it every meal possible. If they come out with seafood oatmeal, I'd have that for breakfast, too.

  9. Peter Gergely is fantastic! My vote goes to him.

I'd probably scribble "See you there!"

    1. Hey, girl - I will see you there! It's a plan.

  10. Three words Mystery Times Up

Peter gets my vote, but I did like the second one, the chemistry on that was nice

    1. "All Clear Now" would work, too. Eliminate that guess work.

Both of these work for me, as is my tendency to only battle things that I like. Thanks, Mike!

  11. Very nice Band and give us to the spirit of reading and viewing this site So good we give solutions for better here Thanks for the help

  12. I'm hesitant to note that anyone is worthy to cover a Taylor Swift song lest her army of fans swoop from their twitter beehive and try to cancel Me for being human. #pleasecalmdownswifties

Her Swifties tried to cancel Burger King:
(It's not clear whether the tweeting fan thought all Burger King people have the same favorite Swift song or whether she thought Burger King is a person).

Add to Burger King Swift's years-long beef with Kanye West.. it's all the best melodrama/entertainment since 80's pro-wrestling. She recently released her album - with less than 24 hours warning - on the day West was to release his own album.. which he then postponed. And I heard that a few years ago Swift released an album on the anniversary of West's mom's death. Seriously. She don't play!

Three words: " 'Why?' Why Not?"

I vote for Gergely. He shows more what an inherently good song Me is.

    1. Yeah, what's up with the e-gangin' that is so prevalent? That's a bit of crazy town to me and I've seen it over and over. The anonymity of the internet creates monsters out of some of these otherwise garden variety cowards. Let's adult-up, people.

And I'm sure the public persona of 99.999% is much nicer than the backstory on a lot of these squabbles. Have at it, celebs.

      Thanks, G Dogg!

Thanks for your personal yada, yada, yada,
Love, Cherdo
